I am so p*ssed off. We just can't seem to get ahead EVER. Tonight we tried to buy a new house. It's not hugely flash, it's lovely and a nice step up from where we are now - we need it because we've only really got two bedrooms here and it's not working with two kids. The market is in a recession and we've been looking for 18 LONG months to find a decent house that meets our standards/needs in a certain area for schooling so that we can settle down as a family. We thought this was finally it.
No. We didn't get it. And it looks like it'll go for much more than we thought it was worth and more than we are willing to afford (there's only so much debt we can sustain).
Never before have I agreed with those people moving overseas, but now I can bl**dy see why it's so attractive. We get NO assistance from anywhere. We never have, apart from student loans and we've paid both of those back. No allowances while students, no benefits or the working for families thing or anything. And if I went back to work we'd only be a smidgen better financially and our family would suffer.
I am just SO SICK of struggling and living in a house that is difficult and not good for us or our kids and not being able to move ahead even a little bit even though we've been working our ASSES off for five years. It's like we're being punished for having kids and trying to do well.
I just can't see any way out and the whole 'there's a reason for everything/it will work out in the end' philosophy I've been clinging too seems to have lost its final glimmer and died.
I know we are better off than some people and I am thankful for what we have, but I am struggling to see the point of anything at the moment.
Well done for reading that. I'm off to bed with that off my chest. Kind of. Still angry.

I hear you on the going overseas bit. I am thinking seriously of heading that way if I ever want a chance at buying a house myself.

I hear ya **big hugs**
DF and I are living in a flat on my parents house at the moment and paying off lots of bills, so we are still pretty poor even tho we have cheap rent.
We are getting married in March so are trying to pay for things for the wedding and after that we want to have another baby, we would also like to move into our own house(rent) and buy our own house in a few years but we cant rent and have another baby and save a deposit for a house. It sucks
So we will just end up renting and not saving for a deposit because we want to have another baby when Caden is 2.

i remember this feeling when house hunting, its the most horrible experience that i have ever been through, hang in there there is a house out there for you in your price range, that will meet your needs, we missed out on so many houses before we got the one we are in.

we are the same. we have a huge mortgage and huge debt but love our house even though it isnt exactly what we want and the location is perfect for us but of course the big mortgage is a long term thing so we have to decide if we should stay in this house and be poor forever, sell and move to a house that we dont like as much but be better off or just sell and move to Aussie and start again. And its annoying cos we have tried the 'money making ideas' but they seen to backfire on us and we are worse off than we were 5 years ago and there doesnt seem a way out. We supposedly make to much money to get any sort of benefit even though some weeks we can hardly even afford to eat! So frustrating

Thanks guys. I have now calmed down and am a little cos I know there a lots of people out there in the same situation, and a lot more in worse situations. And I am very thankful for what we have and didn't want to reignite the 'who should get a benefit' discussion, which I'm glad didn't happen! Thanks for understanding and letting me get that off my chest, I needed to send it somewhere!
We've still got another chance at the house, it goes to auction in a few weeks so who knows what might happen. And today DH and I changed our bedroom around and put up the cot for DD2 which actually made the space work a lot better, so that made me feel better too. Plus I won a gorgeous itti bitti nappy so that made my day!
Tomorrow is another day...

Glad you are feeling better Mazzy. If it helps, we looked at 100+ houses over 18 months before we found our first house, and it was sooo worth the wait! It suited us so much more than lots of the other ones we'd seen, and we got a really good deal on it too.
Hang in there ok? And yay for winning stuff
