Random question but can anyone recommend any? They make my ears so, so sore!!
Here is the problem - if I want to sleep at night I have to wear them as Gabrielles night time playing has reached an all new volume and she literally screams (with joy) as loud as she can. Telling her to be quiet doesn't make an ounce of difference. I can hear her even WITH high quality ear plugs in but it mutes it enough for me to doze.
However, I get very very sore ears from all the ear plugs I've tried and realistically can't tolerate them in for more than a couple of hours a time. My ears are aching today from wearing them for an hour last night. With Elle squealing for 4 or 5 hours at a time I need something I can wear for longer.
Anyone used any that work and don't hurt so much?

I used to wear them a lot for drumming - if you play at full volume for an hour at a time with an amp right by your ear you quickly learn! Ha ha. Which kind are you using that have caused you the grief? I've found the squishy foam ones (dirt cheap, use a few times then bin them) really comfy - you can get them from safety shops, but chemists should have them too. They look like a tiny fluro bullet, and they squish up like memory foam does - you squish them into a wee cylinder, pop them in, and they expand to fit your ear. Just don't shove it in too far!
You can also get at chemists these weird clear wax-like ones that you mould to your ear (re-usable but I question how hygenic it is to keep them for a long time). They might be comfier for you though? Good luck!

I can't sleep without them now. I use the fluoro ones from the chemist - about $6 for 6 I think. They're pretty soft. You can also get really firm brown ones that are a similar price but are pretty nasty on your ears.

Yeah I've tired 4 brands of the soft foam ones and they all hurt. My current ones are the most expensive foam ones from the chemist  . I guess I should try the wax one. My ear is aching heaps today so I am dreading have to put them in tonight,

Hmm yes those sort of Fluro foams ones are the ones I use to combat MARKS snoring...after a week or so they soften up...killed my ears too....

I can't wear ear plugs without them hurting my ears either, Fiona 
I have never been able to have a CD player or walkman (hehe, way back before MP3's or whatever everyone has now) because I can't fit those things in my ears comfortably 
Does she happily yell for that long at night time every night???? WHEW!

Heya,
Some people just can't tolerate the foam plugs, there are silicon ones you can get at the chemist too. Otherwise if you are really at your wits end, you can contact an audiology clinic and they will be able to make you some custom made ones. These can be pricey though, depending on where you go.
