Sundy Night Theatre - A Piece of My Heart

Anyone watch this, it's such an amazing story, I can't believe I hadn't heard about it prior to the film. I can't believe what they had to go through, imagine carrying on with life expected to forget about it.

Also, I'm such a glutton for punishment. I watched this the first time but forgot about the last scene of the girl giving birth. If I wasn't in tears already the last scene made me cry more - I so want to have a baby and give birth more naturally and be able to see & hold it afterwards

p.s. my friend is the actor who's pregnant with twins singing in bed.

I watched this, it's such a strong movie - and heartbreakingly close to home. Many adoptions at that time were very similar - the girl was seen to be at fault, they were sent away for the pregnancy and birth, and they never saw the baby again. I cried and cried, thinking about the children and how they often hunted for YEARS to find a birth parent, even though they were led to believe they were unwanted.

oh boo... i saw the ads for that and really wanted to watch it but forgot all about it .

Yeah I saw that movie when it was on a few months ago as well. So sad, and just goes to show how times have changed within one or two generations. Young mums were shunned during those times, shipped away and hidden like some dirty little secret..never allowed the opportunity to raise their own children....and now today we have schools set up where young mums can continue their education and be with their babies.

mrsg1: wow how interesting, did you resent her thinking she chose to give you away or do you know the story behind it (not wanting to bring up bad memory's though so don't have to share).

OMG!!! I just found out that this exact thing happened to my Great Aunt (who is my grandma's identical twin sister & they live together in Auck) my mum just told me the story so...

She got pregnant during the war (in Fiji where my family's from) & was sent to Auckland to 'work' (i.e. have the baby). Was in a lodge for young pregnant mums and was told she couldn't see her baby once born but she snuck in to see him once. She was then sent back to Fiji (her bubs adopted out) and no one knew she was pregnant. She ended up getting married, she was quite messed up about it and hadn't told her husband & went to a psychiatrist and he/she told her to tell her husband which will help her release her feelings but unfrotunately that was the reason for him leaving her so they got divorced. Only 4 years ago her adopted son decided to find out who his real mum was and now him, his wife & child go and visit my great aunt every mothers day and christmas.

I just can't believe I didn't know about this, it's amazing how hard life was back then hay?

I didn't see it, but wow for your Great Aunt's story Yvette. Isn't it funny how you can find out these stories later in life.

A good friend only found out her mum was married before she married her dad... turns out it was a bad relationship and mum took off overseas to escape... Dad followed her over to bring her back again!

yeah I watched it the first time it was on while I was still pregnant and cried then because I could understand how the girls would be feeling after carrying that life in them and then losing it. This second time I was able to understand the birth e.t.c better.

oh and the bit when Freddy and her baby die was the saddest I think. I hate seeing babies in any situation other then being happy and well looked after.
