Ok guys, I know this has been talked about lots before, but I can't be bothered going through everything trying to find old posts on this.

I have a mountain buggy terrian, which has been really good. My problem is that I am looking at when we have another baby, and the terrain has no options for a second child seat. So I am looking at buying a phil and teds v2 e3 buggy, with the double seat.

I would just like to hear from anyone who has one to tell me what is good/bad about them. It is a lot of money to spend when I already have a buggy which is perfectly good at the moment, and so I want to make sure I don't buy something then regret it.

Thanks ladies

I think Janine (mum2paris) is the one to ask about Phil and Teds?

lolol WHY ME?? I am not a nut about phil and teds.. really i'm not.

Ok, so i am.

It is the best decision i have made about baby gear. truely.

I loved that i could lie Ayja down in the baby part, undeneath Paris, and no-one would even know she was in there.. great for when you don't have alot of time to stop and talk to all those well-meaning but time consuming people everywhere who want to know all thei ntimate details about you and newbie. Ayja was hidden, in fact alot of the time i got weird looks cos they'd see Paris sitting normally and hear a baby crying!!

The main advantages are though:
*It is so nice to push, feels like you are pushing nothing.
*You can use it for baby and toddler, just baby, just toddler, or for both of them together sitting once baby is old enough to do so
*It is pretty quick to convert either way
*Toddler is always covered, FULLY, by rain and shade covers.. i laugh cos when we have it with 2 upright seats andh ave the rain cover on it looks a bit like a spaceship!! PAris used to sit in it at home and pretend!!
*Only probs i found with mine was that the toddler could not recline.. which can be hard if they both fall asleep.. BUT mine was the older 2003 model, not the new V3.. so there have been changes.. namely, the toddler seat now clips in and out, instead of zipping into place in the front like mine does.. therefore i think you can maybe recline it a little.
*Also, once they get to the inbetween stage, IE baby is too big for baby part but too small to safely sit in the toddler seat at the back for too long - cos they can't hold head up if they fall asleep (can block airways cos they are pretty upright and head falls forward..) so that's what i found hard.. but by that stage paris was able to walk beside me if i had Ayja due for a sleep.
*oh, and also, with my old model, there was not alot of room for Ayjas feet, when PAris was sitting in her seat on top.. Ayja didn't have enough room to wriggle her feet around too much - which is why she was out of the baby part much sooner.. again the new model allows MUCH more room. The new model also has been adjusted so that you can put the baby capsules into them too.

Ok there you go, and more Q's.. just ask..   They also have a site if you google phil n teds V3 you'll get their site... and shows all the combinations. WE use the double buggy still sometimes now, when we actually get into town.. but mostly i think soon it will be out of use.. so maybe in a year or so I'll sell it.maybe.

OK so not to be a wet blanket, but the reason i did not chose the phil & Ted is cause I personally don't like how low baby is to the ground when it is a new born I woulf rather my babies were higher so I have a dubble moitain turrain and have the bassanet on oneside course this is a very expensive option I only got this casue I got it all second hand would not have bought it bran new.
when Alan is walking a bit more I will go back to using my valco with todder seat(do not reccomend this buggy by the way its jsut the one I am stuck with) Anyway that is jsut my thought's on the whole thing in theroy the Phil and Ted's look good.

I am yet to use our one, but will be soon! We liked it cos the toddler seat looks like it is more supportive that other brands, cos it goes up there whole back and they dont have to sit upright. Also like how its more narrow than most buggys that have toddler seats,..cos most have toddler sitting high up front,..the wheel base is wide.
It has been a bit hard to find a nappy bag that can fit in the odd shaped parcel tray,..ended up getting the Phil and Teds nappy bag, but its very narrow, and a lot smaller than the rest we saw, so dont know how good it will be.
Also all assesserories are extra so has worked out expensive. The sun mesh and storm cover (to fit buggy with toddler seat)are each about $70.
When the buggy is in the flat newborn position u can sit the capsule on to where the baby would usually be lying, but because of the narrow shape of the buggy, most capsules we tried didint fit. You can buy strapping for $30 which allows you to safely attach any capsule to the top part of buggy, sitting over the bar thingy that a older child would normally hold onto,....hope that makes sense!
We eneded up buying the phil and Teds capsule too cos its much lighter than other brands.

Thanks everyone, esp Janine!! Well I have been told that I have to wait until our house sells to buy a new buggy, so I guess I have a couple of months to decide. I am really impressed by the phil and teds at the moment, so will probably get one. Will keep an eye out for specials in the next couple of months!! I do agree that the baby seems low to the ground, but I dont really want the double mountain buggy as it seems so bulky. I am bad enough banging into things with my single, I would never be able to go shopping with a double!! It is interesting to hear that a lot of capsules don't fit, I bet mine wont!! But hey... I can always buy a new one (although I dont think someone would like that idea!!)

You can buy the $30 srtapping system thingy, that allows any capsule to sit on top, and be secured in place,..and toddler would be in the toddler seat underneath.

Ahhhh, see. .. what you need to read though is... because of the weight requirements.. the lighter baby needs to be the one that is in the toddler seat if you have it in the low down position (with their feet in the parcel tray..) otherwise you get a nice heavy toddler in the back and a teeny baby in the front and well, you can guess it would tip.. mine has not done this but i haven't given it opportunity to... The only time the add-on toddler seat can be used for the big one is if it is in the baby and toddler position _with buggy layed flat and the toddler seat positioned over top of it.

The weird parcel tray is a bit annoying, but i found that mostly, we had a large nappy bag in the car and when we went out we just grabbed a couplle of nappies etc and chucked em in the parcel tray in case.. but mainly early on i went out with mike anyway so if we needed something he would nip back to the car. either that or a small backpack is good.. you can buy the phil n teds side bags that strap on but hey that's just accessorising lol.. you don't need them.

Withthe baby too low to the ground thing.. my MIL bought us the buggy and originally she said the same, and didn't want to buy it.. but that's the only one we wanted.. there is the rain cover flap that we ALWAYS used when ayja was in the lying down position so that no wind would get in on her and once the toddler seat is in on top and they have their little sleeping bags( lol.. my girls did anyway.. thanks to me) i more had the prob that Ayja would get a bit toasty.. and because i am a shorty, i didn't kick or bang it as i walked either which had been my other concern.

Every buggy has it's pros and cons.. but for the most part we have found ours to be just the best... and not alot of people have them converted for 2 kids, so when people see them you are the Main attraction, lol.

LOL... Nathaniel is just as big a convert as Janine... and we haven't bought one yet!

I already liked the idea of the Phil and Teds buggy, and Nat liked the idea of a tandem front-and-back (inline) buggy... neither of us wanted a single pushchair with an attached toddler seat, as Josiah will not really be old enough for them (especially as they don't really support the head if the kid falls asleep). We went to as many different places that sell pushchairs as we could find in Tauranga (when we were there in July) and looked at all the different types, pushed them around, put Josiah in and pushed them a little as well as talking to people in Baby Factory and Baby City... end result? We're going to buy a new E3 after Xavier arrives (with the IRD parental tax credit) and Nat couldn't be happier!

have you thought about maybe buying a sling for the baby instead of a double buggy?

I'm going to talk to the Fabric Technology teacher at Nat's school about making me a sling, but Josiah will probably be in a pushchair for a while yet as he's really little and can't actually walk that long before he gets tired.

What a good idea Becca... that parental tax credit will be perfect for buying a new buggy!!!! I had forgotten about that money.
