So Jake is off to school this year. ..in October, despite what HE may say. Anyway, as I am cheap, I am planning to buy all his school stuff now in the sales and save it for him for his birthday - oh the joy he'll have of unwrapping his new 1B5

But seriously, apart from the ubiquitious eraser, pencil and felt sets, what stationery does a new entrant need? Anyone?

Schools differ in exactly what the kids need, the easiest thing would probably be to contact the school at the beginning of Feb and ask for a stationery list for new entrants

I think they usually supply a list for them when they start school. Some teachers can be quite particular...
Good idea going to the sales now though.

He is going to Central isn't he??? Ask Janine what new entrance's need as Paris has just done the first year. Failing that go in and ask for the list.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

They may even have a list on their school website - so check there. Def don't guess, all books are not created equal and it is hard to have differently lined/shaped etc books at any age, let alone when you are laearning how to do stuff for the first time.

And it is a great idea to purchase now!

you might find that the stationery packs for new entrants are available at a reduced price year round too.

Now is an excellent time to get them, I found as a student you couldn't get half the stuff you need during the year, and its a lot more expensive.

You may find that your child may not need the same amount of books as children starting at the beginning of the year. My DD started in November and only required a couple of books as she would have only managed to fill less than half a book in a couple of months.

Also her school requires them to have specific sorts of pens and pencils each year.

HB Pencils
White Board Markers black (More popular these days)

Eraser
Glue Stick Large (amos is a good brand)
Ruler (non flexi)
Notebook (usually a 3F1)
Facial Tissues
Black Marker

Options
Lg Quad book for Math (JMB Book)
Junior Writing Book (JWB)
SBK (Blank story book)

Yeah, I think the school class them as shared consumables. Some schools do it and some don't. I always thought it was a bit off wanting parents to pay for something that the kid has to share but each school to their own. Only a few of them seem to do it these days.

I shouldn't say it but Warehouse Stationery often have all the local school lists in a pigeon hole unit by the entrance to their store.
