Hope you Gizzy ladies are all ok We were out in the car then so didnt feel it. Teresa, I think 40k south of Gisborne, meant it was centred out at sea. We havent had a big one here since I was a kid, but last one we had here was pretty big, and those ones are very very freaky.

Kellz, I have been thinking of you too. I just came on here to check if you were ok. It sounds pretty scary. I hate even the smallest ones so it must have been horrible.
Glad you guys are ok - even if your house didn't totally escape damage.

I've only ever been in one decent one back in 1991 and it was at night so I was only half awake! And being 13 or so I thought it was kinda fun. I was sleeping on squabs so I couldn't get up as I was too close to the moving floor and it was later I learned that the windows beside me had only been nailed in so far not putty! (I do confess to liking the earthquake house at Te Papa).

But as for one in your house with all your belongings falling over and now having a baby to worry about it'd be a totally different kettle of fish!

Had a 4.8 aftershock around lunchtime. Yuk! I wish they would stop! Had a look around town today, man there is some serious damage to a heap of shops.

On closer inspection, the plaster on the outside of our house in covered in decent cracks too, as well as a few in the ceilings inside.
Plumber came today, and our hot water cylinder is stuffed. Carpet still wet from it too.
