Help please ladies...

My 6 month old has suddenly decided that he doesn't need to sleep during the day, is this normal??

He used to go down for a couple of naps one about 9ish one after his lunch but now he is up until 10 and has a fit when I put him in his cot despite the rubbing eyes etc, its the same after his lunch.

He is definately tired but seems to not want to be in his cot and when I leave the room he just screams and it breaks my heart, I end up picking him up and rocking him until hes asleep.

Has anyone else had this happen around this time and is it a phase??. I was in tears the other night after 1 1/2 hrs of trying to get him to sleep I ended up just feeding him in the end as I couldn't handle the crying anymore.

Is this separation anxiety?

It may just be a phase, but it can easily become a habit. I think 6 month olds should still be having 2 sleeps.

MAybe try putting him down before 10 so he's not overtired and harder to get to sleep. I know its really hard to listen to them cry, but they can be crafty little things and learn really quickly that mum will come pick me up. Personally, I would just leave him to cry and ove a few days he should relearn about day sleeps. You could do it more gently than that tho, start with waiting 5-10 mins then instead of picking him up just give him a pat or soemthing.

Good luck
Aimee

Yes a 6mo is usually going through separation anxiety stage 1 You will need to put her down before she gets overtired, Plunket have a couple of good videos to help this. It's a toughie, I heard that from 6mos they warm up to a familiar blanket or toy so might pay to introduce a teddy bear or doll if you haven't already.
