Topic: We have been in hospital :o( Posted: 14 December 2006 at 1:38pm |
Ashleigh was really grumpy and irritable last week. She was power chucking once a day and then spiked a fever on Sunday so off to the gp we went on Monday. She suspected a bladder infection and a urine sample was "suspect" so we were sent off to Kidzfirst. After inserting a catheter to get a clean sample a UTI was diagnosed and we were admitted for IV antibiotics. We were there for 2 days, and were discharged around lunchtime yesterday. I was a mess!!! I found it soooo much harder having her in hospital this time than when she was in Neonatal for some reason even though it was for a relatively "minor" problem! I think it was because she was so much more aware and got so upset so easily. She would scream everytime a nurse walked in the room And she was so unsettled, wanting to be held all the time which was very tiring in itself, not to mention every time I did manage to settle her and she would drift off to sleep, someone would barge in the door or the phone would ring and she would wake up crying
So that was my exciting couple of days. She is much better now and so much happier at home! We got home around 1 yesterday and I put her to bed. She was due for a bottle at 2 but didn't wake until 4.30! Poor wee thing was exhausted. She has to have a renal ultrasound in the next month or two just to check everything is ok.

Awwww you little Ashleigh... I hope she keeps recovering and the scan gives you good news. Sorry to hear it's been so rough recently (how scary being back in hospital).

Big hugs Kelly, I hope Ashleigh is feeling much better - UTI's suck big time!
Good luck with the renal scan too, I am becoming somewhat of a regular with the renal team in the radiology department at Starship myself...

busymum... I just 'retook' notice of wee Ashleigh's birth weigh and yes I am inspired! They are saying Aidan is 'big' for his gestation and now I know why!
I'm so glad she is doing well! now I know there is hope for AIdan

I'm glad Ashleigh is somewhat of an inspiration to you Trish. And don't worry, before you know it Aidan will be 6 months old and thriving at home like Ashleigh, and your days in NICU will be a distant memory
