Hi there
I have never been to Gisbourne but I believe it is quite small so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is childcare there available for under 2yr olds...?
TIA

By Gisborne people, you mean....me! Now, I have rang EVERYWHERE looking for childcare for my kids, while I'm on teaching practice in a few weeks time - nothing! No spaces whatsoever. I rang every care facility in the phone book. Very frustrating. Rand Barnados who said they had no caregivers available, same with easymingchildcare. The only space I could get them in was Kohanga down the road - which has a waiting list. The only reason we got them past the list was that Lewis' aunty is the oragniser
the other kohanga went like this
"do you have spaces for the boys"(me)
"oh, just bring them along and we'll find space. Te Maira, get down from there." (her)
"but don't you have restrictions on how many kids you can have" (me)
"oh, we don't worry about that too much. Go off and play Hakaam." (her)
"oh, HEY DON'T STEAL jAKE'S GUMBOOTS" (me)

then looked around to find NO outside play equipment, NO paint or playdough, only very very focused on learning maori. I like Maori, I want Jake to learn Maori, but I also want him able to play and learn at his own pace. I will not be sending them there. Also according the ERO report, it should be shut down soon!

although i am sure frantic, if you were looking into childcare there, you have a bit more time to get onto a waiting list or find something suitable.... if you were thinking of shifting or something like that....?????(shameless fishing )
another option would be to advertise privately for someone to look after your child in their home or yours, at least until you get into a child care facility.

AHHH its complicated, not sure if we are shifting. Hubby has an offer for a job but it could be based in Gisbourne or Palmy North or Wellington. I knwo the other centres are big enough to have lots of childcare if I NEED to go back to work but wasnt sure about Gisbourne... but we wont know for a while where they want to base him, basically it is a wait and see game cos there are 3 people leaving the company over the next 6 months, one from each of those area's, and we will be offered the one that leaves first...

But as I see not sure...just curious thats all!

Hi ladies.I used to live in Gisborne and my girls both went to daycares there.Victoria daycare was great. At 1st I couldnt get my youngest into one as they were full so I tried Barnadoes and she got a caregiver straight away.Have you thought of them? They are based down Ormond Road.Hope that helps a little

I was told that they had no caregivers but would be placed on the waiting list. My situation is a little differnet in that it would have only been temporary. Actually, just remembered that the salvation army has a place where they have spaces becasue it's only 9-12.
I think my temporariness actully put the places off ot tell the truth so you might have more luck!
