For those of you that haven't been following the July Mummies thread, it appears that I am now officially a full time SAHM and "housewife", got "the call" from work today to say that they were offering me redundancy as part of the recent re-structuring of my department. As much as it sucks to be out of a job, I'm as "happy" as I can be I guess that I got my answer so quickly as to whether or not I'd be hanging around.

Although as you'd expect, I'm reasonably upset and a bit annoyed, because I'd almost psyched myself up for finally going back in early October (even if it was just part time to start with). I'm not going to rush into a new job, part time or otherwise, I think I need to take a bit of time to work out where I might head to next - and also enjoy being able to be home with Erin maybe a bit longer than we had originally planned.

So I've had a big blub to Roland (working from home today, thank goodness), and then we sat out on the deck in the sun for a bit with a beer, and discussed the fact that not all is lost - I'm still young, still employable, and life isn't really all THAT bad.

It's also a plus that I've started to come right from the anxiety and other issues I was having before, I don't think I would have handled things as well as I am if this news had come at the same time last week... hooray for St Johns Wort and Vitamin B !!

Right... off to find the menu for the new Thai place that's just opened up down the road, and work out what we might want to order for dinner

Glad to hear at least you have confirmation. Sound's like a good idea to take it slow and see hwta the next step will be. Hugs

Jax

Enjoy your dinner, and a glass of wine too!
I'm sure you and Roland will figure out a plan for the future, and like you said, you get to enjoy being home with Erin for maybe a bit longer.

Oh Jax, I'm so sorry your work have done this to you, it blimin sucks! I can sympathise totally The same is happening to me at present but I am not yet on maternity leave! I went through so many emotions in those first few days, I was shocke, upset, angry, gutted, scared then, like you looked on the bright side. Now I don't have to make the agonising decision when/if to come back and I get a nice payout to start my 'holiday' with. Plus I have negotiated to stay on until I would have gone on Mat Leave and made sure they tee up my Govt Paid Parental leave before making my redundancy effective. Are you eligible for a pay out from the company?

It's certainly a really unsettling time but the world is your oyster now    Enjoy your Thai takeaways and beer

Oh it seems so suspicious when they do this to M2b or new mums. I hope that it was all above board - and if it isn't, I hope they are going to give you a decent payout! Makes me very pleased that I am a teacher.

ah ha, I think I know you miss... is there something you should be sharing...

Jax I am so sorry that this has happened, but I think in the long run it may work out for the best. No more trips to town, which if Erin has issues in care can take awhile to get to her, and you get to spend more time with her.

Take care
S

Bugger about the redundancy - but at least you get the bonus prize - spending more time with your gorgeous girl!
Glad to hear you are feeling better too!

Sorry to hear about that Jax, but at least it has a nice silver lining (and maybe a payout?). Also glad to hear you are feeling better.

Thanks for your support everyone, I really do appreciate it. As it turns out yes, I am eligible for quite a reasonable payout, so that will make things a lot easier on us with me being home for longer. I guess my main frustration is that I was planning to settle into that job, I was enjoying it, and wanted to start my 'career' with it... but oh well, it was probably life's way of saying "this isn't it !".

Sorry to hear about the job Jax - I have a sneaky nagging feeling somthing similar will happen to me while I am away ... just a few things that have happened lately...but we will see...
YOu will find something just as good, if not way better, the job market is really flyin at the moment, I just recruited some staff, it shouls have been easy but it was really hard, there is such a shortage of good staff (or any staff it seems), people just being snapped up so quickley you just about have to offer jobs on the first interview! It is a good time to shop around at the moment, too many jobs and not enough candidates for them (as told to me by at least three recruitment agents)
BUT on an even happier note - if you are a fan of Thai food have you tried the palce in Milford? - Benjarong I think it is called - sensational...no wait, let me make that SENSATIONAL!!!! I am a firm believer that Thai food is the way to happiness LOL!

LOL Yeah I'm not too worried about finding a new job, I know there will be something out there. At this stage I don't plan to look again until closer to Christmas, and there are usually heaps of openings at that time of the year. I think I will also need to take the 'extra' time off that I'll have to consider quite carefully what my next step will be, as I don't want to end up suddenly changing jobs again if I don't find the right one.

yeah I think I will do the same, am goign to take my time off to really consider my next move... have gotten into a rut lately just going to work to pay the bills and not really thinking about any long term plans or carreer development, so it will be good to use the time to make some well thought out decisions...
ah well good luck with it all...
