I read the following in my sisters child psychology book, was going to just post it in the twins thread but thought others would be interested. It shows the correlation of IQ between 'related' children/people:

Relationship          Correlation (1= exactly the same)
Monozygotic Twins (identical)
       - reared together           0.86
       - reared apart                 0.79 (very interesting)
Dizygotic Twins (fraternal)
       - reared together           0.60
Siblings
       - reared together           0.47
       - reared apart                 0.24
Parent/Child                          0.40
Foster Parent/ Child            0.31
Cousins                                 0.15

I find this sort of stuff really interesting. I especially find that no matter how I bring up my boys they're going to be very similar - but that doesn't stop me experimenting in their upbringing ... he he - I think DH may have something against that though!. Also interesting that frat twins are so close as they are often considered the same as siblings (yet born at the same time).

Edited to make sense

That is interesting... actually the twins reared apart makes me think of the wartime adopted-out twins who find each other much later in life, when they are e.g. 50's. And yet they have so many similarities but didn't even know the other existed!

People always comment that I must see the girls different personalities coming out now but really they are so similar in every way. Hazel is slightly more cuddly and Esme is slightly more adventurous but mostly they are very alike in personality as well as physical and mental growth.

My girls were like that too Lisa, altho they did all the physical stuff together too, but from about a year old their individual personalities started to emerge and now they are completely different. They still have some similarities, but Sienna is definitely the leader and Mercedes is definitely more easy going and cruisy, but she's also more active than Sienna.

That is fascinating Yvette. It doesn't surprise me that the girls would have similar IQs as they do seem to me developing at a similar rate, but it's interesting too coz Maya has been identified as 'gifted' and altho the gremlins definitely aren't, I was labelled as gifted as a child too.
