hi everyone im a bit stuck at the moment, for the past few weeks ive been struggling with money. after my bills have gone out im left with $90, $30 of that goes on petrol for going to uni and back each week ( worked out its more expencive to get the bus or train) then i have to spend $50 on milas food coz of all her allergys each item of hers is around $7 i try and get things for her that arnt expencive but then all she can have is rice basicly, but im question is does anyone know how i can buy food for myself thats cheap and it will last the week. so far ive been living on noodles or some days just nibbling on milas food.

Can't you get a grant for her food? I'm sure I read on here somewhere that if your child requires certain food that you can claim a disability allowance?

On the food thing .. Pasta is cheap, you can make up a big bowl of tuna pasta salad.

If you got a package of mince, red lentils, onion, tinned tomatoes and carrots you could make a big batch of a bolognaise type sauce. You could then eat this with spaghetti, in tortillas as burritos, add a tin of chilli baked beans and have it on rice as a sort of chilli con carne, add veges and mix it with some pasta sipirals or penne for a pasta bake. One big batch of the sauce wouldn't cost much to make and you could stretch it a long way.

Rice is probably one of the cheapest things and you can have it with all sorts of stuff, just a simple tuna & rice dish would tide you over, or a tuna pasta bake.

One of our regulars which is really cheap is a stir fry with the asian style 2 minute noodles. If you brought a packet of frozen stirfry veges on special you'd get a number of meals from them (otherwise obviously fresh) and all you need to do is stry fry them till done and cook the noodles according to the packet directions. We usually have meat but a vegetarian version would be just as good.

Mac & Cheese is pretty cheap if you get the cheese on special and again you could stretch it over a number of nights.

yeah i have a winz appointment today so hopfully i can get one. shes already got one she gets some extra a fortnight so i try stock up on her bread and put it in the freezer.

that sounds good i was thinking about pasta thanx

Baked potato is pretty cheap, it's also nice with a bolognese type sauce.

Can you cook and/or bake? I make pies and pizzas out of flour water and yeast, and use really cheap fillings - sausages, eggs, mince, onions, tinned fish etc

If you are near a library grab yourself a copy of Alison Holsts 'Dollars and sense' cook book its a weatlh of cheap recipes and meals you can make from next to nothing.

Eating cheaply is realtively easy requires a bit of creativity is all.

Also you can get those packets of pams soup bases for about 70c for 600mls. You can grate a carrot, some onion, cabbage any cheap vegetable really into it. Serve with rice, or put pasta in the soup.
