Topic: one off formula feed?? Posted: 05 November 2006 at 6:13pm |
hey ladies,
i'm wanting to have a couple of 'fantas' tonight and it won't work out to express because of timing of her feeds.
my question is, we have a couple of sachets of formula in the cupboard but i'm worried charli is too young for it and maybe she will get a tummy ache...
has anyone given their breastfed bubs formula at charli's age and do you think it would be ok for her to have one or two feeds of it?

When I was breastfeeding, I gave Ashlee a one off formula feed and she was fine with it.
As long as the formula you DO feed her is appropriate to her age, then it should be ok.

i think 1 or 2 feeds is fine, like Kirsten said as long as its for the right age it should be fine
I might make 1 suggestion through... try her on a little bit before you go giving her a full bottle.. just incase she doesn't take/want it!
Bailey had a formula feed about the same age - I was scared I wasn't producing enough

Might be too late now but yea, the formula should be fine. The only concern would be, what if she's a bright little cookie and decides she's only going to have the 'real McCoy'? Hope it works well for ya...

When Taine was about 3 weeks I had a contact course at Massey and my nana babysat...maybe he was a bit older. anyway, gave him formula - he was fine and slept for three hours in the afternoon. woke up happy as and no tummy upsets at all.

Yeah i agree, i wouldnt be worried about the upset tummy side of it cos as long as you use the right formula she will be sweet it would be more the will she take it and if she does will she get a taste for it and not the breast, not sure if that happens though having never b/f

thanks for your help ladies i thought she would be fine with it but just needed that re-assurance i guess. i gave her a bottle of formula before i started drinking to see if she would drink it and she loved it! no upset tummy or anything either so i'm very happy. she's had a boobie feed this morning without hesitation so she doesn't care where she gets her feeds from

Mercedes is on formula for 24 hours while the dairy gets out of my system and she seems to be fine (it is prescription formula tho)
