Hi Everyone
I have only got around to posting on here now after a busy and exciting week.
Oliver William was born last Sunday night weighing eight pounds two. We are very proud parents and can spent hours just staring at him and the little faces he makes.
My birth did not go anything like my birth plan!!! It was really long but in saying that it was fine.
I'd been having quite intense period pain on the Thursday and Friday and been so tired. On Friday night at 2 in the morning I started having contractions. they were manageable but I couldn't sleep. I got up and lay on the couch, tried to read etc. At mid day on Saturday they were coming every 5 mins and so we made our way to the hospital. The midwife checked me out but I was only 1 cm dilated (after all that effort!!!- aaagghh!!!) We came home again and stayed home all Saturday night - by then things much more intense and was having showers, full on breathing etc. We went back to the hospital at 5 on Saturday morning as I couldn't handle it anymore. When I got checked I was still only 3 cm dilated and exhausted. Midwife suggested that I have an epidural which was the one thing I had been terrified of. BUT... I am now the biggest convert. It was amazing. They then broke my waters and gave me sentocin (sp) to make the contractions more effective. By about five that night I got checked again and was 7 cm dilated but the little monkey had turned and had his head in a funny position. They suggested I would probably need a C section and gave me some tablets. Luckily though when they checked again at 10 cm he had turned into perfect position. I then pushed him out in 45 mins.
It was so amazing when I first saw him. I cried and was so so in love with him.
We stayed in hospital for three days and have been home for four days now. Things are going better since my milk has come in - before that we learnt that he has a great set of lungs!!!
Tried to post a pic but don't know how. Emma can I please email you one to post from me (only when you have a moment) Do you mind pm ing me your address?
Congrats mummy, daddy and baby Oliver. I was so determined that I was just going to do the whole gas thing but certainly wouldn't hesitate with an epidural next time.
