I don't think it's rude - just practical. Double ups are just a pain in the butt for every body!

Maybe on the invite specify that they don't have to use the registry, but if they are stuck for a gift then there are some ideas there.

I wish I'd known about that when I had my baby shower for Cooper.  Registries are a good idea.

This is how they do it in America, and people tick things off the registery so you dont get any double ups.

However, i prefer to just get what Im given....I didnt request anything unless some asked me.

I don't see it as rude but I'm like Sheza, just see what other people come up with. A few of the things I wouldn't have thought of to ask for so getting those surprises was totally neat!

I don't think they're rude, a more common part of life these days along with wedding registries, and house warming ones too.
Nice to know you wont be getting your friend her 3rd rattle, or 10th stretch and grow suit.

When it's done in that vein, I have no probs (ie not rude). Same for wedding registries.

I don't think it is rude, as some people have no idea of what to get you so having that gives them ideas.

I had a register for my wedding and I have a number of single guys that came to our wedding, they loved that they didn't have to think about a present and could just get something off the list.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Sorry, not for me I think it is a bit rude, just my opinion though, but I am not a big fan of baby showers either!

I get what you're saying Red, TBH I wouldn't do a register myself (we didn't for our wedding either and some people were annoyed! lol!). Also it's a bit off when someone organises their own baby shower, but it's lovely when a baby shower is thrown for that person.

I am with you Red. I think registering for a baby shower is rather rude. I personally wouldn't do it and would be offended if it was on an invite for me attending a baby shower..

I like the fact that people put time and effort into finding you/your baby the perfect gift. Its sometimes the thought behind it thats more important than the actual gift. TBH I had 2 baby showers (1 fom work, 1 from friends) and got no double ups and some wicked presents that I would never have thought of.

I can understand for a wedding as its slightly different and you are getting "bigger" items and most people already have a house full of stuff.
