Does anyone know if I get medical insurance for Isla now,...after she has already began a trial of medication by our GP for silent reflux,..will treatment (specilaists etc) related to her reflux be covered?

you may be able to get medicial insurance for her, but most places will say that pre existing conditions wont be covered.
all i can suggest is that you ring around

It might be that she wont be cover for the first year or so. But eventually all stuff will be covered.

My understanding is that reflux is always sorted out before the child turns 5 so... what exactly would you want covered by the insurance that isn't already public health funded? All the visits to doctors, prescriptions, and any referrals are all covered aren't they? And then no problems later in life. (If I'm wrong, someone please tell me )

I was hoping that if she was insured we could go private if we had to wait ages to see a specialist or to have any tests in the public system.

We're with Southern Cross and they've been great. They do have the 'up till 3 mths' thing that AnnC mentioned, and I'm not sure how that would be affected with Isla being 4 mths already but it wouldn't hurt to give them a call.
Busymum - for under 5's insurance is all about the waiting game. If we hadn't had insurance I would have had to wait 9 mths to see a public specialist for Maya's allergies, and would have seen a registrar rather than a consultant. It also covered my OB during pregnancy, otherwise I would have had to see the hospital 'team' which means limited continuity of care and I wouldn't have been able to keep my brilliant midwife.
Insurance has given me the freedom to choose who I take my kids to, and cut out waiting lists. I wouldn't be without it and am incredibly grateful we have it given all the issues these 3 have had
