Topic: getting the snip Posted: 31 July 2009 at 1:26pm |
how long after your and your partner decided that your family was complete did he go and get the snip.
anyone know what criteria is for going public. We are both in our 30s (my husband will be 33 when our 2nd baby is born) and we have both decided that 2 is it for us.

Hehe, we just had this discussion the other night. As we will both still be youngish when we have this one (28 and 29), we have decied that we will wait until DH is about 35ish before making the final cool. Means we could have a 5 year gap and then 2 more if we want.

I have a friend who had it done recently, he's only 27, but married, two kids of his own (one of each flavour), another daughter that he loves dearly from his wife. He had to pay for it but it was surprisingly cheap - about 6 or 7 hundred.

if you go to a doctor they rate you on a scale. if you are hgih enough you can get it done at ffamily planning. they take lots of things into account. my sister has 2 kids with her husband they are now 8 and 3 and hubby is 35. they got extra points because he mental state would be at risk if she got pregnant again, financially they couldnt cope etc... so it depends on each situation. see if the criteria is available on the internet and you'll figure out how eligable you are

Some friends of ours paid about $400 - pays to make sure it is what you want as very expensive to get it reserved!

I dont think its to expensive but I know my doctor who is also my friends doctor told her to wait till her second child is 2yrs old because they are generally out of the danger zones of SIDS etc... and luckily they did because her second child did pass away due to SIDS but they now have a new wee boy who wouldnt be here if they had got the snip when they were talking about it

Dh is getting the snip after this one but I am sure there won't be a problem - we are both in our 30's and have 4 children between us (well will be when he gets it done)
And if you have medical insurance it covers it so we can get it free Bonus

A friend turned up to the docs when #2 was 2 weeks old to get a referral for the snip - the doc said come back when the baby was a few months old, sleeping through and their lives were semi-normal again before making such a big decision! luckily they did as they then decided to have #3 & 4.
For us, I'll get an IUD so that lasts 5 years. Then DH can get the snip if we choose, or it'll be perfect timing to TTC again. I doubt we'd ever go for more though, unless it was a whoopsie.

I am 99.99% sure 2 will be it for us..anymore would mean a bigger car and bigger house..neither of us which we could afford.
I am thinking of getting the IUD just until DH gets the snip..I hate taking pills (even though I take one every day).

DH has just had his done a few months ago. he's just had his first test and showed there's nothing left
i was kinda hoping i'd get knocked up by accident, but that's not gonna happen now! if it did, i'd have some explaining to do!!
he'd pretty much decided when i was pregnant with charli that he'd get it done after she was born. then it was just a matter of having the money to do it. when he went in for the consult, the dr didn't even ask how many kids he had or their age! just agreed to do it and made a time! it was $95 for the consult and then $320 for the snip (i think)
personally, i'd wait until bubs #2 is at least 12mths old.

I'm glad we waited. I was pretty sure when pregnant with Lilia that 2 was it for us. Now I really want a 3rd and DH has agreed (yah!). Anyway I think your idea of an IUD for a while is a good idea.

i dont want to rely on the pill again either as was on it 9mths ago and well....waiting for unexpected no3 anyday now.
my youngest is 9, i'm 36 and NO WAY doing this again..
i'm impressed that some of you were able to talk your man into it..how totally understanding of them

well I got pregnant on pill, depo and with a IUD, even though we wanted a large family I didnt want them so close together but oh well. We want DH to get the snip b4 this bubba is born (#6) so I really need to get onto to getting him to the dr to find out the cost, which is the only thing holding him back, but once we know we can save!

2 of my BILs have had it, but waited till their youngest kids were 3-5 to make sure. For one of my sisters, her concern with it was "what if I die and (her DH) marries again and wants to have kids".
My DH is happy to get it done once we've decided we're finished, just need to decide whether we'll have 2 or 3. Was good to hear about the implant being available in NZ now (in first baby thread) which I'l probably do while we make the decision.
