Ive been debating wether to send Kobe to kindy. He currently goes to preschool one full day a week but he really needs to be in there another day because he is getting really clingy etc... but they are full and there is a huge waiting list. Kindy is also heaps cheaper of course but Im worried about the lack of supervision, well maybe not lack but the ratio of children to teachers is heaps more than preschool so does that mean they are just left to run wild with no one watching them? Also do the teachers have to be trained and are they checked/monitored by anyone or do they basically just run themselves? Has anyone else had children had to make this decision recently and if so what have you decided any why? Oh and he is toilet trained but sometimes he needs help getting his pants up, do they help with this or will they basically just leave them to it at kindy?

Ok at Jaydens old Kindy they had one outside teacher and one inside teacher, Plus a teachers aide. The two teachers are fully trained teachers and regularly update their skills. All Kindergartens have to answer to the Kindergarten association which acts like a mother so to speak. They have certain policies and quidelines that they have to follow plus they are checked on quite frequently and are all assigned a caretaker to watch over them. I was on the committee for Jayden's so I learnt a bit about how they operate and as they are government funded they are carefully monitored from memory I think they also have ero reports done on them like schools do. They have a lot of free time but usually have numerous activities inside and out that operate throughout their session. Jayden learnt a lot while he was their and settled really well into school.

They will help him with the toilet, Jayden was in nappies when he first started as he was only 2 and a half and they were great.

In saying that we have opted to keep Abby at playcentre for several reasons. Firstly she has been really hard to settle at Playcentre so we don't want to have to move her again. Secondly her playcentre is very much like Jayden's Kindy in the activities they do, plus we can have her in whenever we want not just three afternoons for under 4's a week and then five mornings a week for over 4's like at Kindy.

The best thing for you, I think would be to go check out your local Kindy and see how you feel, and have a list of questions you want to ask them and see how they operate.

I hope this helps.

This is what I've been thinking about too. I'm really hoping that our daycare opts for the 20 hours free childcare scheme which starts in July, as we're mostly likely heading to the US for a few weeks.. and you have to pay if your child isn't there, $25 per day. Which adds up to alot if they're away for a few weeks!

As you might remember, I've had trouble settling Ella into creche and she's finally happy there. So I'm uncertain about having to go through it all again. She'll be 3 in June.

I guess my decision will depend on the free childcare thing, otherwise I'll be forced to loose her place while we're overseas and then we'll have to wait for her to get into kindy.
