Topic: Is it possible.. Posted: 24 August 2006 at 1:52pm |
For a baby to have both reflux and colic? Its just Ella has been diagnosed with Silent Reflux but she also screams from having wind and Gas and she farts allll the time and is always crying from either reflux or having a sore tum! U can tell shes sooo relieved once shes farted but until then shes really difficult and fussing ALOT. Its really sad coz when shes feeling good she is such a sweet girl but its hard to determine what is up when it could be one or the other. Sorry if im blabbering im just confused!

she may not have colic but maybe suffering from the witching hour! Lauren suffered from that and we did start using Gripe water (can get from supermarket) as MW suggested to use it and it calmed Lauren down for a bit but we eventually went to a homeopathy specialist and were prescribed some tablets for her to take (calming tablets) and they worked wonders and Lauren was a hppy wee thing after that.

i use to do massage with james that my doc thaught me its easy as after a bath and using bubs mosteraser start with letf hand side of tum from under ribs to groin rub down and in do this about 5 times then start at top right hand side of tum and rub across and down the left hand side then start at bottom of right hand side going up then across and then down the left hand side should help move wind and helps with a sore tummy good luck

Good luck - hope something works (and quickly!). All I know is that yep, they can have silent reflux and colic... I was educated on this by someone who's children had both (until then, I'd thought they were the same thing!).

I thought the main thing with colic was that they cry at the same time every day...

If you do look at the massage Jess, Johnson's are giving away DVD's on baby massage. All you have to do is buy a johnson's product get the form and post it away with your till receipt to show proof of purchase. I've just got to get around to posting it to them to get my DVD.

http://www.cryingoverspiltmilk.co.nz/ has some tips on it, there is also a thread that is moderated by a lady that specializes in gastric reflux on the everybody.co.nz forums, she apparently is wonderful!

Jake had both the silent reflux and the colic. Thankfully, he has grown out of both now!

Jezsika, Briona had both too. It lasted until she was 3 months old. It's very hard going, keep up the hard work! (Why do they have the most trouble at the most tiring end of the day?!)
One thing I needed to watch was whether it was colic or overtiredness - towards the end of the colic, it sometimes was just overtiredness but I didn't pick up on the difference. I watched a Plunket video on baby sleep and that helped. I really don't like leaving babies to cry but it was especially helpful in noticing the subtle signs of tiredness.
All the best, and share cuddling the baby at nights as much as you can, it really helps. *hugs*
