Topic: Tiny baby colds Posted: 26 March 2007 at 9:57pm |
My poor little dear darling has got her first cold (her big brother shared it with her and I) poor little lamb is beside herself and won't sleep, everytime I put her down, she gets beside herself. It breaks my heart, I actually cried before when she was howling, I felt so terrible that I couldn't do anything. Who else has had a wee newborn get a cold, and what did you do? I gave her 1ml of pamol, I couldn't remember how much I gave Jake at this age when he has his shots. Poor wee babe.

oh poor you, poor her. Elivate the head of her bed as much as you can. Syringe her nose out with saline drops. 1/2tsp salt in half cup warm water. If you have a vapourisor put it in her room.

If you are BFding the best thing is a drop of Breastmilk in the nose. It clears everything up. and take her into the bathroom after you ran the hotwater. Steam will help as well. Take her for a walk along the beach. The seaair does a lot of good as well.
Hopefully she will feel better in no time.

Thanks! The beach is a wee bit far for me to take her today, plus, I feel like ar$e, so not that keen to beach walk. Took her into the shower with me today, she liked it, and has now gone to sleep in her rocker, so I will curl up on the couch and have a wee sleep as well. It was a loooooong night for us last night. I did not know that about breast milk, but I am sure she got a whole heap up there before when she was sick during a feed, lol! I will squirt some up there next time. Good old BM, the cure for all!

Poor Charlotte, and poor Mummy!
Benjy had a cold when he was a month old too, other than what everyone else has already suggested, the dimetapp infant drops can be used from 1 month also. Unfortunately you can only get it on prescription now, but I found it a great relief when he hadn't slept for more than 10 minutes in 12 hours because of the congestion!
Hope you're all better soon!

No, Ana, it's so not your fault!! Jake had a runny nose when he was playing with Joey anyhow, I thought it might have just been teeth. And, I didn't think he could pass it on to bubba since she is BF. Ah well. Did you get the house?

Oh no poor wee bubba. Our wee man had a cold really early too. We used Karvol on a tissue beside his bed as you are not able to use till 3 months, worked a treat.

we are onto our second cold already ( so much for bf babies being immune - thats the life of the second child i guess) and we elevate the bed, baby vicks on a tissue by her head, and pamol to help her sleep. havent tried the saline yet as she would pitch a huge fit if i did. so the last few nights have been disrupted a lot! poor bubba. but at least the baby colds dont last too long.

We've just got our first cold.
All I did on Friday night (when it was at it's worst) was steaming water with eucalyptus, lemon & tea tree essential oils in it, plus elevated the head of her cot. Ended up giving pamol at recommended dose. I also gave her some Coldmed (same homeopathic brand at teethmed).
Hope you are all better soon. The pamol box only states from 3months, and lowest dose is 1.2ml, so not sure for a 1 month old sorry.

We were told 2.5ml as well but I gave Krystiana 2ml just to be on the safe side. She's still struggling to properly beat the broncilitis - basically chesty cold. She's had it on and off for three weeks now but fortunately is only rattly now, not unsettled. I put baby Vicks in hot water under the head of her cot, which has been elevated. Baby Vicks on the top of my breasts so she can breathe it when she's feeding. (The ordinary Vicks "burnt" my skin this time anyhow.) I was squirting BM in her eyes because they were a bit gunky, and that seemed to help her nose out as well. Do it right after a feed when the milk is freely flowing and they are drowsy
