Topic: Help!! Allergy? Posted: 10 April 2006 at 8:11pm |
HELP!! 2 nights running, I have make Jacob custard, from the farex banana custard, with formula, and almost the minute it is in his mouth, he projectile vomits. He seems fine in himself, you know, happy etc, but the vomit!!!!!!!
I had been giving him the can/jar custard, and that was no probs, but on a money saving mission, I thought I'd make it.
What do you think is the prob? Am I loading his tummy up too much (although not feeding him anything more than usual except he is drinking more water with tea) or is he allergic? No other symptoms, no rash (although we do have a little ecxema the doc looked at last week, he dosen't think a dairy allergy)no hives, no runny nose, wheezy etc. (I have allergys, so I know the symptoms, believe me!) ior is that his way of being fussy! LOL!
Advice much appriciated please!

not sure if it helps or not but Kobe used to vomit on the first mouthful of anything cereal like the apple and cereal or farex type cereals. anything else he would be fine just aslong as it had no cereal in it. Not sure if it was the texture, taste or some sort of allergy though.

I am stumped jacobsmama????!!! Why don't you give it a few days and then try again just to eliminate any underlying tummy bugs etc. Then perhaps offer it at a ddifferent time or in a different order.
It is very bizarre indeed. Is it wet enough with the liquid, why I ask is I know that if weetbix is too dry it can make you gag a bit?
I will watch to see if somebody can come up with something for you - very interesting.

Han used to gag when she didn't like something but I don't know if she ever vomited, so it could be that he just doesn't like the taste/texture?!?
If it is just that, just leave it for a few weeks and then try again?

There may be a possibility that he may have an allergy to banana's. Its not uncommon. Ask your GP how hard a test is. My little one is NOT a fan of banana either, but there is a banana allergy and an egg allergy in our family. Just a thought. Hope it helps.

Has he had any other exposure to dairy (formula etc.) If so, then you doc is right - it is unlikely to be a dairy allergy. But if not, it could be. That was one of the first signs we had that Maya was allergic - first she blew up after her first bottle of formula at 5 mths, then she had some custard the next day and had the same reaction.

He is all good with formula, has cheese and youghurt and a banana most days all three, some days not. He has self weaned, so drinks formula now. I asked at Dr's today and she said He maybe jsut dosen't like it, try him on it again in a few months time.
