The student allowance stuffs up your in work payment so it's not worth it (IMO). With dependants (children) you get about $70 a week. I am getting the $150 living costs (yes it will cost more in the long run, but it is interest free and its a good help having that extra money a week).

At the job I'm currently at, we take calls for WITT (after hours). I'll find out as much info as I can and bring it up for you next week. I'm not counting on finding much more info than the website offers though. It's probably something you would find more information about by ringing StudyLink (I agree, I don't much like the StudyLink site). I would call them and let them know your situation and what assistance they can offer.

Deb, if WITT has a studylink person on campus go in and see them. They are so much more helpful (well our Massey one is). If you were at your computer I would let you know what I know on MSN.

I am the same as Becks. I am doing a paper at the moment, and when I looked into a student allowance I realised I would have lost most of our Working for families money. I too am getting the Living Costs of $150 a week. It sucks that i will have to pay back a bigger loan, but what price do i put on making it easier to stay at home and raise my daughter

I know that if you take out a student loan (with the living costs) you will still receive your family assistance payments, however you won't receive accommodation supplement. Not to sure how a student allowance would affect them though..

You will lose your accomodation supplement through WINZ, but can get it through Studylink instead

I am a student too but but with no babies, I am getting the living costs cause if I had of got the allowance, df and I would have lost our accomm supplement, so we still the accomm supplement while getting living costs payments, next year when we come to ttc and have a baby I will still get living costs cause its not worth losing anything we might get from working for families and our accomm supplement.
