Does anyone know of a good way to get rid of fleas that doesnt involve a nasty chemical flea bomb? Obviously with a 2week old I dont really want to have to fill the house up with nasty fumes, but I need to do something to get rid of the little b*ggers.

DH's office have had problems with them and we think that he brought them homne in his clothes....yuck!! He is the only one that has been bitten so far - hence we think thats where they have come from!!

ANy ideas?

Flea powder? You sprinkle it on the carpet then vaccum it up later.

The safest method to get rid of them out of your carpet and rugs is to shampoo the carpets or steam clean if poss. Vacuuming gets rid of the adult fleas but you have to use a shampoo or steam to get the larvae. If you don't have a carpet cleaner you can hire a rug doctor from most supermarkets or it is fairly cheap to get someone round to do the carpets for you.
If you have pets probably best to frontline them. I would also be getting your DH to tell them to sort it out at his work, cos that is gross, and he will likely keep bringing them home and you will have to keep trying to get rid of them.

I thought of that - but I am worried that they have made their way into the sofas, beds etc!

If it was my house, I'd pack off to my parents for a day and night and just bomb the house if I was worried they were in the furniture. I'd just make sure the house was fully aired out before bringing bubs back. Fleas are lil bastards to get rid of if they have made it into furniture.

But like cuppatea said, if its your DH bringing them home from work I don't think theres much point doing anything if hes gonna bring them back again.

They tend to stay in the carpets and rugs cos its more like fur and they normally stick to the edges around by the skirting boards. We moved into a flea riddled house in the uk and got absolutely bit to buggery. I only had to treat the carpets though they hadn't got into anything else.
I wouldn't want to bomb chemicals in my house even without a 2 week old around and I don't think being away for a couple of days would be good enough, but then i'm very anti chemical.

Now I feel really itchy!!! I would get DH to talk to his work about getting pest control in to control the fleas at work first. I work for a company that runs call centres and somehow we get fleas in the building! Yuck!

Then I would try what cuppatea has suggested and go with carpet cleaning first to see if that gets rid of them without the nasty chemicals.

Good luck
