Ok I know we will develop our routine but generally what is a normal 24 hours like? How long does bubs sleep, how many bottles a day that kind of think?
Sorry for the crazy question its just dawned on me that this time next week I will be induced so Im trying to prepare my self for motherhood.

sleep, sh*t, feed, sh*t, sleep, feed, sh*t. etc... oh and throw in some crying, from everyone.
and how long depends on the babies... both my boys were long feeders, up to an hour just to feed one baby. other people have said ten mins and they were all done.
sorry not much help really.

good luck with that lol!!!! jordis was a prem baby, 4lbs 3oz, and in the neonatal they had her on a 3 hourly feeding routine which worked well to begin with. once we got her home we kept to the 3 hourly routine and let her sleep as long as she wanted at night - which unfortunately was 4 hours at most even though she was breastfed it helped to have that day routine. will your girls go to neonates to begin with do you know? they are very regimented about the schedule, and it helps to follow it along until the babies start to "wakeup" a bit more, which is anywhere from 3 weeks on. then you are flying by the seat of your pants, but it all gets better around 3 months!

Ok every baby is different, but this was my first few weeks.
The first couple of days he wanted to feed about 3 to 4 hourly. Hospital was trying to push for 3 hours but I wanted him to get hungry before feeding him, not force colostrum into him via surringe (sp?) he would only spew it straight back out anyway so what was the point. Once my milk came in he wanted to feed 2 to 2 1/2 hourly during the day and then was going 4 hours then 3 hours then 4 hours again at night (so 8pm, 12am,3am,7am ish). He did this for about a week and then wanted to feed 2 hourly during the day and 3 hourly at night usually 11pm 2am then 5am then up again at 7. We did this till about 8 weeks and then we introduced a formula top up at 11pm and he would then sleep till about 4am.

My friend has just had twins and she is going to try and follow the routines in the contented little baby book. At the moment i think that the hospital basically sets the routine for her for the days: Feed #1 (1hr)change and settle, feed #2 change and settle (1hr), express (1hr), repeat. Not sure about overnight though.
I am following the routines in the save our sleep book and find this helpful at least as a guideline.
Hope this helps, and good luck with the preperation for motherhood.

For the first month or so Ella was on a 3-4 hour cycle. Would wake up, have a feed (for around 30-45 min), nappy change, play for a short while (15-30 mins) then down to bed for a 3 hour sleep. Gradually as she got older the feeding time decreased, playtime increased and after 2 1/2 months the sleep time decreased.
Would normally have 3 x 3 hr sleep during the day and then wake a couple of times during the night (normally after 4 hrs for the first sleep and then again 3 hourly).
For the first couple of weeks Ella had her day mixed up with her nightime and keep trying to sleep for 4 hours during the day, so I had to wake her after 3 hours to have a feed. Didn't take her very long through to get back to the correct time.
Early on we got into a nighttime routine of giving her a bath before bedtime (and then an extra feed)- found it did help a lot and she really enjoyed it.
GOOD LUCK with the new babies- I am sure you will do fine

we did not routine...we did demand....
but have to say we live extended family which has been a BIG blessing where having a new born is concerned....I suggest best thing you can do it get someone to come stay and help out....grandparents etc in shifts of a couple of days each etc....
and as far as the bubbas go - they will tell you their routine...go with it and dont try to change it to suit you or you will suffer! eventually they come right....our 12 hour straight thru sleep was testament to that!
BTW cannot wait to see your precious ones....and will be funny if they come same day as gremlins did!!!

I read all the books about routines and wondered if I could do it let alone bubs. I kinda played it by air but made sure he never went longer than 3hours for feeds during the day and that he had sleeps as soon as I noticed tired signs (dont always get this). He has found his own routine which is actually very much like the "strict" ones in the book...but with less stress for mummy! Last thing I wanted was to feel a failure because I couldnt follow a routine.
that said I think my boy NEEDS a kind of routine and whenever I let things slide a bit we are very unsettled!

We were the same in that we wanted a routine of sorts but let Sam set her own. She was demand fed as well from the beginning and usually goes between 2-2.5 hours between feeds. The only real routine we put in place was the bedtime bath, massage and book, but that didn't really come in until she was around 3-4 months. As a result we have a very contented baby who sleeps through the night and has done since around 8 weeks old. They really do set their own routines, but with twins you might need something a little more structured to make it easier on yourself

Briahna is bottle fed so i feed her every 3-4 hours but sometimes she will drink half her bottle then go to sleep so it kinda screws it all up lol.
Basically its feed, nappy change, sleep. And repeat every 3 - 4hours ish.
::Shrugs::
Im not much help. Good luck for next week though.
[EDIT]
Although now shes older she has times where she will be awake a bit longer so we will hang out and have some tummy time or whatever.

The one thing I did which I can highly recommend is waking one baby to feed when the other one wakes so that you are feeding them both at the same time and eventually they settle into a pattern of sleeping at the same time. I know a few people who have demand fed twins, but the majority routine feed coz it's the only way you ever get anything done.

When I started reading this I was thinking just let bubs set the routine - I demand fed Ollie and it eventually everything fell into a routine - however then I read Emma's post and realised you are having twins which are a different kettle of fish!

My twins were in SCBU for 5 weeks, so they were pretty set in a 4 hour routine, I alternate between breat and bottle feeding, so there is 1 hour difference between their sleep patterns. This way, I can breast feed at a leisurly pace, and not have to worry about the 2nd one screaming the house down.
The girls are usually awake for 15 - 30 mins after their feed, and then to bed again. They have set their own routine since being home, it has stuck at the 4 hourly during the day, and at night they slep for up to 6 hours at a time. Last night they went down at 10 and the 1st one woke at 5.45am.
I am still to get into a really good bathtime routine though, at the moment they get cleaned when I can fit it in.
