Topic: Flies! Posted: 31 January 2010 at 6:52pm |
Honestly, i'm at my wits end! We have 2 robocans and a can of raid and nothing is working this year! it seems that the flies in canterbury have become immune to our system :(
I thought i'd post and see if you lovely ladies had some sort of 'make at home' fly killer / repelent that works!

The window stickers work well combined with the robocan and fly spray

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I noticed fly spray this year made no difference. I resorted getting the robocan out.
Make sure it's the natural one not the other one cause I've found only the natural (green tin) one works.

I've tried everthing too, Robocans, window stickers, venus fly trap etc without much joy. My neighbour swears by those rather unattractive fly curtains, like the ones they have at the fish and chip shop. Another friend has these very clever screens that have been made to fit her windows and just stick to the frames with a magnetic edge.

So it's not just my house where the flies are suddenly worse this year? I don't like the sound of flies multiplying AND becoming immune to fly spray!
We've got Mortein energy ball, it comes out in a thick white mist and it kills a fly in under a minute if you hit it directly for less than a second. It also works pretty fast when it's used for a whole room at a time too which is nice.
The only issue I have with it is it seems a bit pointless when I've got all the windows wide open!

I swear by the fly curtains too! At our old house we were plauged by flies in summer and last year I wouldn't let DP spray as I was heavily pregnant. He duly trotted off to Bunnings or Mitre 10 and bought one of those plastic curtains (last seen in the 70's) and we put it up on the back door (also the entrance to the kitchen). We had hardly any flies all summer

I live on a farm and have alot of flies but I find a combination of having the house 'flybusted' (an operator comes around and sprays the inside of your house) and a Robocan does the trick.

i've seen that ecomist one on TV, you reckon it's better than the normal robocans? I'm totally keen to get something that I know is going to work!

We have screens on every window and door but the flies are still a problem! They are driving me crazy!
We have the green natural Mortein sprayer thing and it is doing absolutley nothing! I swear they laugh at us as they fly through the mist!!!

I am SO glad other people have flies too!!
but I dont have anything to stop them sorry!
You can spray the inside (ceilings and around the windows) with Ripcord (not ripcord plus though) and that apparently works well.
If you come up with a magic solution you might have to start selling the advice and make your millions!!!

I know you can use mint - fresh stuff. You apparently crush it and put it around the room. Pity I dont know anyone with a mint plant!

well we use the raid automatic thing and i think its fantastic. used to get actual swarms of flies. now with windows and sliding door open, i consider it a bad week when we get 3 come inside over the course.
yeah ive heard that mint/mint plants work. apparently basil aswell. MissAngel if you were down here i couldve given you heaps! we have a big patch of wild mint just growing over everything in the backyard!
