Topic: This is bad, bad, bad, bad ..... (TMI) Posted: 04 October 2006 at 11:29am |
Please! Anyone who has had endo surgery ...
My first period post-surgery started yesterday (surgery was on 12th September - My op was on day 8 of my cycle, I'd bled for 7 days with my period, and then bled for another 7 after the op), and I thought it wasn't too bad. Some cramps, not so bad, and light bleeding. By about 7pm last night I was feeling really bad, still not bleeding much but the pain was building and by about 9pm it was really bad. As bad as before the surgery, even a bit worse because it was whippping down my leg and moving into my sides - bleh! Anyway, normally I don't bleed much at night, but protected myself anyway, and when I woke up this morning there was blood for miles (well, a very full pad, that's for sure), and I thought ...hmmm.
Now, this morning, it's just kept flooding - I usually use regular tampons and change every 4-6 hours as you're supposed to. Today, I can't soak it up fast enough. Thank goodness I'm wearing a skirt. My stockings, knickers - they're soaked with blood. Forget about the state of the panty liner! It's very red and there's no clotting, just blood.
I'm quite scared! This is so, so not normal for me. Do you think it's just because I've not long had surgery?
I really want to go home, and can't leave work. I feel so rotten.

OK I would leave work as you really shouldn't be there - explain to your boss that you have to leave due to the bleeding. I'm sure anyone would understand enough to let you go and see the dr. Ring the surgeon and explain what is going on and get in there and see them. Flooding like that is not what I would call normal.
ETA: After my second surgery I had funny bleeding and the surgeon told me he had knocked my uterus around a bit to start my period as it was ready to happen and it was best it was started.

I have no idea about endo but if I was you I would leave work and I would contact your doctor. Even if it is normal it would be for your own peace of mind and comfort!! Surely work would understand.
Good luck and I'm sure everything will be ok. *hugs*

Yup i had ALOT of pain with my first period as apparently you still have swelling for 3 months or so. But I didn't have really heavy bleeding so i would definately call your doc.

Thanks everyone. I was having a panic attack, so some calm words was great. I'm at work with just the storeman, so haven't been able to leave. But at the moment, the bleeding seems to be slowing.
Now that I've had the chance to think about it rationally, the bleeding is probably different because of the surgery, and especially being the first AF since, I didn't really know what to expect. I haven't really had time to build much of a lining since the surgery, so I guess that's why is more like straight bleeding. Pass?
If it hasn't settled properly by the time I get home from work - off to the doctor I will go!
At the moment, I have now passed over from panicking about the fact that I'm bleeding like a stuck pig, to worried about the fact that I have no knickers on!!
And Maya - if I don't 'see' you again before - all the very, very best for the birth(s) of your babies

Thanks KH25 - I did need to know that about the pain! I was climbing the walls last night and wailing to the husband that I'd been ripped off (he was very understanding and hid in the lounge)! I even had to resort to the painkillers I was given post-surgery
That's interesting about the swelling. The cuts are so tiny, you forget that there has still been some major tooling around done with your insides!!

Ginger I haven't had endo either but I still think it would be good for you to talk to the Dr as if you are bleeding a lot you may need iron supplements for the next little while. Hope it settles quickly

Yer i second call the dr for iron supplements
I was in so much pain i called my specialist and she told me its normal. I had periods that were similar to what they used to be then about the 3rd one they started getting better and i didnt need codeine anymore only panadol
Just remember everyone is different and if anything seems out of kilter for you call your specialist or dr.

Thanks everyone for your support and advice yesterday. It turned out later in the day that my dr closed up at mid-day and my specialist was on answerphone! BUT today things are settling down and the bleeding has eased off. I'm still pretty tender, and feeling like I've been steam-rollered, but apart from that, the worst is over. It must have just been a bad visit! Yeesh!
Have a good day everyone!

Endometrosis - the lining of the uterus and alsorts of other internal parts of you (bowel, ovaries, tubes) have it on it as well. It causes horrible period pain and you have laparoscopic surgery to get it taken out. 4( or more) cuts in your tummy (1 in belly button, pelvic hair line and the others in your tummy) to put the instruments and cameras in.

Yeah, ouch! Funnily enough though - the surgery wasn't as ouch as AF this month! BUT, all is back to normal again and I'm feeling MUCH better!

Hey Ginger,
That does sound horrible. I hope they got everything when you where in there!!! Ive had it too, about 3 years ago now and havent looked back since so hopefully you will be all good too.
As with conceiving a baby - it really worries me but I guess I have to wait and see what my body does! hopefully everything is still well and normal.
So good to tap into all the people on this website who have been through this as well.
When i had it done it was still evry taboo - i basically diagnosed myself and sent myself off to a speciailist and was under the knife the next day!
Hope you are feeling better :)
