Topic: Baths Posted: 21 April 2006 at 8:33pm |
With our first child, we gave him a bath every night. Now that our second child has arrived we are so busy that sometimes we only give them a bath every second or third night. I do try to do it every second night at least and its either a bath or a shower but we were recently on holiday staying at my MIL's (if you can call that a holiday) and she went on and on and on about giving them a bath every night. I never really thought about it but thought I'd see what you pros out there were doing...every night or every other night?????????????

They say the third ones only get baths once a week
I think every other night is fine- I would only think you had to do it every night if their skin got irritated from being dirty, they are really active and getting really dirty or if you are wanting it to be part of their night time routine every night.
MILs are invented to make us feel bad as parents- shes just doing her job Mine is up for an MIL award this year- she can make me feel bad about absolutely anything!

KObe is every second night or morning. i guess depends on if you want it to be part of the bedtime routine. We were told by plunket that you dont really want to or need to bath a newborn every night because they cant keep up with the the natural oils that protect thier skin which you wash away plus they dont get dirty like they do when they are a bit bigger

I bath my girls every night. They bath togeather and have done so since Jayde was quite small. Just my opinion but i would hate to not have my shower everyday so would like give them the same. Also with Jayde being in nappies still i think its really important for her to have a bath.

We try to bath or shower our kids every other day... either they have a shower (Josiah with either of us, Kiya only with me or by herself) in the morning when we do, or a bath at night. Generally, Josiah has a bath first, then Nat will warm the water up (and deepen it considerably) for Kiya to get in.

Hannah gets a bath or shower every other night as precribed by the doc for her dry skin.

i try to bath caitlyn every night, sometimes i wish she'd have a shower but she doesnt like them.
when she was a newborn and we were still at bethany they instilled the bath every night thing so it got to be a habit but i have heard that its not necessary -so i guess its whatever works for u.
Kelly, when the twins were really little was it diffucult to bath them? did u and ur partner take turns ie u bath katelyn and he holds ryan and viceversa?

Thanks everyone...guess in the grand scheme of things every other night is not so bad. It was probably that the comment came from my MIL which made think about it more

They say that babes don't need to bathe as much as we do... (Don't ask me who 'they' are as I have nothing concrete to back this up... just general info I have picked up from somewhere or other!)
I only bathe Hannah every night as it is her signal for bedtime. Though there is the odd night if we have been out and about that she doesn't get a bath.
Anyway... just take the advice that fits what you want! It makes your life so much easier

I bath my two girls together at night. I find it saves me heaps of time. Grace is 3 months and Danielle is 3 years. They have heaps of fun and my 3 month old doesn't mind water splashing on her face thanks to my boistrous Danielle

once a week here - sometimes 2x/week. Absolute chaos here. Maybe in 6 months everything will be easier?
We're obviously a minority!

Maybe once a week here! Used to be alot more but now Ella has a shower every morning with one of us she doesn't need the bath.. we used to use it as a night time routine but then she had milk and brushing her teeth too... now we've stopped the milk she knows that she brushes her teeth and then goes to bed and she's happy with that :)

After Jake has had dinner - he needs a bath despearetly. He insists on feeding himself and the results are...interesting. As for taine, he usually gets a bath every night as he LOVES it, and it exhausts him. It means that both boys are in bed by 7 usually. I vary Taine's baths. Somtimes he has one with me, sometimes with jake and sometimes just by himself. He usually has one while Jake is in his high chair as big brother loves to help.
