My midwife told me to book a 6 week post natal check up with my GP for me and Ben, at our last appointment yesterday.
I can't remember if I had one when Ella was born, and when I rang to book it this afternoon I was told that only Baby is funded for a 6 week check up and if I had one I would have to pay.
Is this the same for everyone or am I just at a stingy medical practice? My midwife made it seem as if it were a standard post-natal thing....

I had to pay for my smear! Olivia's check was free though. We only get funded free neonatal visits to the Dr caraMel.

Mine was free. I had a smear at the same time but wasn't charged for it at all.

My midwife did my 6 week check up. Its something they are paid to do as they can't release you from their care until you are all good. Talk with her again I think.

ETA: If your dr was your LMC then they would be doing the check.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

my m/w said unless Ihad some kind of taruma eg lots of stich's or really bad grazes there is no need to check downthere cause if something was wrong I woild notice as far as smear's go the last one i had was when I was about 10 week's preggy with Alan. Should prob have one when we do Michael's check, but we will see. I really hate them. I am quite happy not being checked down there I have only jsut regained my dignity.

I chose to have the smear because I've never had one before so I don't think it's usual practice. The doc would've been fine with not doing one!

I didn't have a 6 week check with my GP, the m/w just checked everything before she discharged us. I didn't have an internal check tho, she just checked my tummy and had a quick look at my tear to make sure it was healing properly.

Thanks Everyone for the replies.
I could probably do without getting the check but have realised I need to go anyway for contraception (m/w can't prescribe what I need) and follow up on some blood tests so there goes another $60.
Darn it, I want to buy clothes instead!!
