Don't laugh at me I just want to cover all grounds.

Ethan is currently waking up at a once at night. If I change him to formula what do I do when he wakes up? The tin says he can only have 5 bottles a day. Is that all he needs?

I know that there is a chance he will sleep through the night but just in case I want to know what I should do if he does.

linelle that is a good question.

i usually make bottles as they are needed, by storing the clean bottles in the frdige with cooled boiled water, heat it up then add the formula powder... but at night time (for those just incase times) i make a bottle up before bed so if kayla does wake up and wont settle all i need to do is heat it up -makes it easier with tired blurry eyes and i would hate for kayla to scream for ages and wake the rest of the family up. she has only ever needed a bottle a few times during the night and was when she was unsettled with her infection a while back.

he side of the formula can does say 5 bottles but it also says that your baby may require more or less just see how he goes. all the best

The can is just a guide, Andrew could have up to 7 a day if he was really thirsty. We had a bottle made up in the fridge for the nighttime feed just in case. As it was easier just to heat the bottle than to muck around at some ungodly hour in the morning trying to make up a bottle for a screaming child. All the other times it was water in the bottle in the fridge and warmed then the formula added.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

The gremlins are *supposed* to be having 6 feeds a day according to the tin, but someone forgot to tell them they are also *supposed* to be sleeping thru, so they in fact have 7 feeds a day (including the night feed).

I make all my bottles up at night and keep them in the fridge, that way all I have to do is heat them. The formula tin doesn't recommend that but they are fine for up to 24 hours. And at this stage I'm all about making my life easier!

If I'm going out I just take water in bottles and this handy little formula dispenser which has the measured amounts of formula for up to 6 feeds and just make them up as I go. Unfortunately the allergy formula isn't available in sachets so I can't just keep some in the nappy bag in case of emergencies

from day one on formula Caitlin slept straight through. Took me a while though to trust that she would and was always throwing the "night feed" away

Like everyone else has said, the tin is a guide only but if you're worried about over feeding either give him less when he wakes in the night or space out his day time feeds
