If you've got a happy settled baby that has a good sleep routine, no colic, reflux etc then the first six months are good. After that it can be pretty tough until they are about 3-4.
I studied full time when DD was four and that was a piece of cake, they go to bed early, kindy is cheap, and they get invited to lots of play dates.
