Topic: Why does she do this? Posted: 17 November 2007 at 7:48am |
Hello
Ok so EVERYTIME i give kylah to someone to hold that isnt me or DF she screams!! Im not kidding, she screams her little heart out and doesnt stop.. not till i take her away and cuddle her.. my mum thought kylah just didnt like her, but its not just her its everone. She will happily sit on my knee and smile at them but at soon as they get to close or hold her she screams.. i dont know how to make her stop this?
Any ideas?

Hannah used to do this bout the same age, but only with men including her grandfathers. Its really embarrassing isnt it - she would even cry just looking at them! Unfortunately there isnt a lot you can do until she gets past it. We just used to make sure people didnt get too close too soon, and just went with it.

Ella went thru a stage of this as well- I think when she was around 2 months old. She did grow out it and will now be happily cuddled by other people.
I think I still got my family to hold her- but just for a short period of time and I stood beside them so that she could see me and knew I wasn't going away.

How long did it take for them to grow out of it? Shes only just started doing it.. and i feel bad for my mum, its her first grandchild and she wants to hold her but kylah screams and i find myself making excuses like shes tired, hungry, needs changed etc..

I think she must of done it for about a month or so- she is now nearly 5 months and has out grown it completey (but still doesn't like to be left alone with anyone else other than me or DH - fine when I am not in the room, but soon works out if I am not in the house at all).

Maddie did the same thing and still does sometimes if it's someone she doesn't know and she's feeling overwhelmed though over all she is pretty cruisy now.
With Maddie we just found it got better as she got used to being around different people.
It is really hard though! Ultimately though you are Kylah's mummy and she is "just" being clingy...I'm sure your mum does understand!

It's horrible and slightly embarrasing isn't it
Samantha went through this stage too, it lasted about a month from memory, apparently at about 3 months they become aware of who is Mum & Dad and can get extra clingy. I just did the same as Mum2Ella, would let them hold her but stay close so she could see me. She is now back to going to anyone happily (I almost wish she wouldn't go so easily).
Oh,and don't worry - in a couple of months she will start to realise that when you put her to bed she is actually alone - then the fun really starts

Yeah I'd say the worst of it for us lasted around a month or so.
And yes, we won't even go into the bed issues!

We've had trouble with all of our girls, and the first two were the first two grandkids on both sides . We learned to keep cuddles with others short. I think they go through a clingy stage when Mum is all that matters, but sometimes also go through another stage at 6mos where if they can't see you, they think you've disappeared! LOL. It was a good 8-9mos before all our girls warmed up to extended family.
