Topic: Endo and MRI scans Posted: 16 July 2009 at 11:02am |
Just wondering if anyone can help me out as I know some of you have had endometriosis.....I have a bladder condition that my specialist has been trying to diagnose for the past year which is getting fairly frustrating! One of the possibilities is that I may have endometriosis on my bladder (therefore obviously in other places as well). My specialist said that an MRI scan should identify endo so I had the scan last week and am waiting for the results.
Anyway, my question is has anyone had an MRI to diagnose endo? From my limited experience I thought it was only laparoscopic surgery that could give a definite diagnosis? Thx

When my spec assumed I had endo I had a normal pelvic ultrasound which she said there was only a very very small chance it would show up. But yeah a lap is the only definate way to diagnose.

I have endo on my Bladder (one lucky lady here ), it was picked up when I have bladder surgery in May. The surgery I had will help my condition quite a bit.

I guess maybe they're doing the MRI to get a better image (as it will show shading etc of endo - whereas an u/s won't necessarily) but I was under the impression a lap was the only definite way to diagnose as well. Well at least that's what I was told when I had my lap.

Ok thanks for your replies. I am going back to the specialist tomorrow for the verdict and and want to be at least a little bit knowledgable as she tends to be pretty standoffish and unwilling to volunteer information so I am going armed with questions!

I never got an MRI for my endo, they did a normal ultrasound scan but couldn't see a lot so just did laparoscopic surgery, which confirmed I had endo on my bladder and a few other place - quite bad apparently!
