Topic: Eye Drops.... Posted: 19 September 2008 at 2:58pm |
Should I take her to the doctor?
Can Zoe have these? She is 9.5 months old? I am thinking no, but then again not sure.
She has just woken up from her afternoon sleep, with a gunky eye, coughing and runny nose, the same symptoms as what Lucy has had and only feeling better today 5 days later. A virual infection! Great, one better and then one sick! Can't win, and I am also sick getting over hayfever! Sorry for the rant.
Is there anything apart from Nurofen and Parmol that I can give her?

Is she still on the boob? Breastmilk is awesome for clearing conjunctivitis. If not, then yup there are eyedrops she can have at 9 months old.
We had them for Ella a couple of times when she was under a year and they were free on prescription.
Hope she's feeling better really quick, I soooo feel your pain!

Oh, and you can give her those Dimetapp infant drops (The purple one) for the runny nose etc. That's also prescription only now though.

Do you think that I could just go to the chemist and get some?

You'd need to take her to the doctors. Dimetapp, Robitussin, Demazin etc for under 2s are only available on prescription.

If its viral, drops wont help (well antibiotic ones that is). I would be tempted to get some non preserved saline drops (eg Refresh) and use those. They will mainly work to rinse out the eye and soothe it. Most conjunctivitses clear up by themselves. Just make sure you use a clean flannel to wipe each eye and that she isnt sharing towels etc. Change her sheets regularly etc.
She is definately old enough for drops if they are necessary but I am never a great fan of them if they arent.
hope that helps.
