Topic: Is anyone going to the Police tomorrow? Posted: 18 January 2008 at 7:14pm |
Cos I went last night and they were great, they did most of the classics and went a bit off piste with some strange new ones, but all in all it was a good gig. Fergie was OK, but not my sort of thing really and Neil thought Fergie was the Duchess of York, . Maybe we are more out of touch than we care to admit, hopefully Fay will keep us young.
Best thing was Fergie did her first set with her flies open, you could see it up on the big screen.
Worst thing was finally admitting we should get seats as we are getting too old to stand up for that long

and I thought fergie (who I detest) was a strange opening act for a rock band?

LOL, shame @ Fergie with her fly open and I totally agree about her being a strange opening act for a rock concert but they always seem to do that.. When I went to see Morcheeba in 2006 (i think it was? ) they had a random dude playing god only knows what for 2 hours and the crowd got really bored, then Morcheeba only played a few songs STINK!!!!
We live just down the road from Western Springs, where the concert is being held tonight in Auckland so we should be able to hear it from home if the wind is blowing the right way

I wnet to a Madness day festival in London a few years back during a soccer World cup (I am a very big madness fan) They had some great bands on, we moved from Ian Drury and the Blockheads, Desmond and the Diamonds, Catatonia, Space, then just as the crowd was all revved up and ready for madness, Finlay Quayle did this accoustic set, i think he needed a police escort out of the Park as the skinheads at the front were throwing beer bottles at him.
Fergie was a bit left field, she did a good job but it didn't really fit at all IMHO

IT did sound like a weird combo, The Police and Fergie! LOL about that fly though... ba ha ha ha! Well my claim to fame here is that my dad and Sting (well, he was just 'Gordon' then) grew up together - they were neighbours 'till Dad left to come to NZ. Nana used to tell Dad of his concerts coming up, Dad was just 'yeah that's great mum, yep, yay for him'.

Finlay Quayle is good, but NOT a good fit for Maadness, etc. That sounds like it would have been a wicked good gig!
