Can you tell me if i have done the right thing.
I was looking on www.gumtree.co.nz for a puppy. Found a Maltese, spoke to the guy and he said he will sell it to me for $200 purebred with NZKC papers.
He is in Auckland and said he will ship the puppy to me using www.flypets.net.tc so i looked at the website and noted the 31 years experience etc.. Everything was underway untill he said to make payment using western union, and to put it into a AFRICAN account. Hmmmm dodgy.

So i googled flypets and came up with what looks to be the REAL company www.flypets.com all the details seem way too simular and they have 32yrs experience.

The what i think are fake people are now getting shirty with me as they want the money to ship the puppy and wont give me a physical address as to where they are located in auckland airport to see that there is actually a puppy.

They cannot spell or write english properly.

Did i almost get scammed? Can you look at the 2 websites and tell me what you think?

Yep you sure did - if you could get a maltese for $200 then everyone would try and get one from them.

Get shirty back at him.

Tell him you'd rather not use flypets as they lost your unicorn and can he offer an alternative.

Or tell him you've arranged someone to pick the puppy up and they will give him the cash then.

Grrr - I hate con-artists.

That definitely sounds dodgy to me. $200 is way too cheap for a maltese I'd say. If I were you I'd just email to say you've changed your mind. End of story. Then ignore any further emails they'll probably send you.

Don't send any $$

Yep i agree, just ignore all further emails after telling him no thanks. He's hardly going to sue you for breach of promise all the way from Nigeria
good on you for researching him too, apart from $200 it all sounded legit til you did that didn't it?

Got to be a scam

A purebred maltese puppy for $200 with NZKC papers?
Either a scam, the puppies are stolen or there is something wrong with then.

Even on Trademe purebred maltese Puppies are selling at $1000+ and the crosses are $600+

That is way too cheap, for a pedigree Maltese and I know when my mum was breeding she always wanted to meet the owners before she sold to them, and some of our dogs did go from Akl to Wellington.

Hell we drove all the way from Akl to Putaruru to get our Burmese cat.

Don't you want to meet your puppy before you buy it?

oooh mate! Lucky!!

Honestly, though, I wouldn't buy over the net, you need to see the dog, check it out, its eyes, legs, skin etc and, word of advice, even $200 for a "pedigree" WITHOUT papers is waaaaaaayyyyy too cheap. It costs a fortune to get a dog in pup then get it ready for homes. Most would start around $300ish at least with no papers.
