Topic: Has anyone replaced their house windows? Posted: 04 October 2007 at 9:33am |
Sorry, I couldn't think of anything more specific for the topic
DH and I have more or less decided that we are going to replace all our windows (wooden) with aluminium ones. Unfortunately, it's either this, or spend a fortune having them repaired and replaced anyway, so we decided to go low-maintenance.
What I'm wondering is, has anyone else done this, and how much did it cost? I know it obviously depends on how many/how big/preferences for your windows, but just an idea would be loverly
That way, if I think it's going to cost $10,000 and I get a quote for $30,000 ... well, I wouldn't bother getting the quote if it was going to be that sort of price I'd go for fixing what we have!
Anywho, thank you!

A couple of years ago my parents got their bach done and I think it was about $26000ish but that's just a small 2brm I'm not sure if that included the cost of travelling all the way out to the sounds to do it or not? It does depend a lot on the type of glazing you choose though.
If you are thinking or repairing window frames and sills I've heard it can be pretty costly depending on where you live because there aren't that many people that specialise in joinery anymore.

Ginger we have the same problem (all wooden windows in need of repair/replace), we just bogged the ones that just needed a repair and cut out the bits that really needed it and replaced the wood with exterior grade pine and then painted over them. Look as good as new for a fraction of the cost. We did it all ourselves though.
I'd hate to think what a house load of Allu windows would cost, for our house I would expect at least $35k installed

A friend of ours just replaced all his wooden windows with aluminium in a medium size house and it cost $11,000. We did the same about 2.5 years ago, and from memory it was no more than $10,000.
