lol had orientation and nursing orientation - so have had a whole heap of information crammed into us about all aspects of the hospital.

Next week, i have monday doing core skills, tuesday and wednesday I am finally up in the neonatal unit on afternoons, then friday i get to be assessed and hopefully signed off on my 1st level IV cert.. it's all going pretty quick, and just a little freaky actually to now find out that yes, while we have been practising with Iv's and the 1Litre bags for infusions etc.. i get told that the ones for neonates, lolol, they have infusions of 5mls.. am just imagining the drug calculations now... tiny amounts!

orientation sux aye! So much info that is pretty much common sense - am hoping I have managed to get out of the formal orientation training as I am only working weekends. Glad to hear that you finally get to do some work on neonates this week...

YAYAY! first two shifts down, and I LOVED IT!! It's great learning to care for all the wee bubs, last night i actually got to take one out of incubator, give bottle and put back in (which was totally nervous about cos they are so tiny tiny).. and have learnt to give ng feeds and change naps (which sounds easy but is so not on them cos they are tiny, have wires etc and you gotta do it through two ports in the side. anyway, was neat. Am off to go back to bed cos i got home at midnight, so have a good day ladies.

Glad to hear its all going well Janine! I know what you mean about being a bit freaked out - I am working weekends only which means you are the only physio for the whole hospital and a lot of the work is ICU. I have done quite a bit of ICU work before but I've been off work for a year now and its scary going back to it, especially when each unit does different things - some bag, some dont, all ventilators are different... I think the freakiest thing I do is taking someone off the ventilator to bag and suction! I have my first day on Sunday which is with another physio then I'm n my own! We really should catch up one weekend when we are both working
