You can register your car monthly if money is tight, however generally you do it 6 to 12 monthly. I think, although am not 100 % (as our business pays my costs) that its cheaper to register for a year than less amount of time. Not much tho. It does cost about $200 odd for 12 months Look up the LTSA website. Warrants are 6 monthly once your car is over 6 years old and you cannot register your car unless it has a current warrant.
I'm fairly sure its illegal to sell a car with less than 3 months on warrant or rego... although I know you got the car off your friend.
To fill your car? about $50ish maybe? costs me about $80 I have a 2.4l 4wd. That lastrs me 3 to 4 weeks, and I drive round lots and use air con on full blast or have sunroof open and windows down (very fuel inefficent!)

a 3 mth rego is around $59 and 6mth around $120 ?? not sure
i got a 3 mth yesterday so i know its $59

you cant get a rego if you dont have a warrant.

and if you dont have a rego for 12mths LTSA will de-register your car which means you will need to get it re -vin'd which costs HEAPS!!!!!

a fine for no reg or no warrant is $200 each.

my mum has a 1.3 it costs around $70 to fill and lasts AGES!!
ive got a v6 and it costs around $120 *shock horror* to fill but that lasts ages too and that was when petrol cost way more. i find if im just driving round town doing things i use heaps of petrol tho.

DH's ute costs $90 to fill doesnt last long as he drives like hes in 1 of his race cars.

DH says . .
and as said above YES it is illegal to sell a vehicle that has a warrant more than 30 days old.
but doesnt matter how old the rego is as long as it has a valid one.

may next year? are you SURE thats the warrant? cos warrants are definately only 6 months unless your car is under 6 years old? Mine is on its last 1 year warrant as it is now 6 years old, and will go to 6 monthlys in july next year
unless they have just put a warrnt onthe car and the old one stil had 2 months to run, of course, but even then?
Exciting having a car, tho, huh? My first was an old toyota carolla and it was great.
