Topic: Cleaners Posted: 13 January 2007 at 10:57am |
This morning I've looked around the house and it's a mess and I really don't wanna clean it. I will but it will take a serious amount of motivation lol..
I was thinking that once this baby is born neither DH or I are going to want to clean so am thinking about putting aside some money and hiring a cleaner for the first say 3 months but I have no idea at all how much they would cost. I'm guessing that how much they cost would depend on the size of the house, how long it takes and what you get them to do.
If anyone has a cleaner and you don't mind sharing, how much do they do and how much do you pay them?

My MIL used to have a cleaner.
I think she paid about $50 once a week.
She has quite a big house. They vacuumed, dusted cleaned the kitchen and for a small extra cost did some ironing like once a month or something. (This is Auckland prices for Mr Green cleaning co)
Hope that helps!

If you get a private one... usually they are around $20 an hour and I think 2 hours per week gets a decent amount done.
I think Emma has one... she might be able to shed a bit more light.

we used to have one...she was on a benefit so paid her cashy....she did 2 - 3 hours and was a simple 4 bedroom house with one bathroom and lounge...she dusted, vax, polished every second time, and tidied up and cleaned, but didnt do windows...we paid her $40 - $50 each time....til she stole from us...and we fired her...yep there is a down side...so we now do it ourselves altho i would love someone in to iron etc i cant trust someone to come while we arent here now....
we got quote from lady across roads cleaner for ours (thought we could trust her maybe)...4 bdrm, 3 lounge, 2 study, 4 bath now and she said she would need at least 4 hours and would be like $100 each week....so we flagged it...

Mobile Mums in Palmy charge about $25/hour Stacey.
You won't need them to do everything but a once-a-week visit to do the boring stuff would help you out. If you're happy to keep on top of meals etc, and get them to do the vacuuming and bathroom cleaning etc... for example.
Back in the day the Government used to subsidise home help when people had a new baby... if only!

I'm a fussy vegetarian and DH is a meat eater who must have meat with every main meal so getting someone to cook for us would be hellish for them lol.
But I don't want someone doing that kinda thing, just general stuff. It doesn't sound too bad price wise. And I just remembered that the in laws have a cleaner - should be nosey and ask them how much it costs them, I'm always jealous with how nice their place looks lol

I know HomeCare in Palmy have cleaners you could try there. Mum has one but ACC pay for it so I have no idea how much it would be for one here.

My sister does ours, I get her to come fortnightly as we don't really make much mess and can keep things up in between. She spends up to 3 hours and I giver her $40 each visit. I would look in the local paper and see if there is someone local who does it, I have yet to hear from any of my friends or family who have one of the big companies doing the cleaning that is truely happy with the service.

what about student job search? i did lots of one off jobs through them i got about $10 an hour in the hand and usually lunch or afternoon tea. The only problem is the trust issue. I would ask for references if you were planning to pay something decent.

I got my cleaner thru Mr Green and it costs me $60 a week but we have a fairly big 4 brm. She vacuums and mopes, dusts all the windowsills, cabinets etc., gets the cobwebs, and does the bathroom, toilet and kitchen and it takes her just over two hours with a helper.
