(I posted this in pregnancy thread but not getting many responses so thought i would try in here)
Hi i was wondering who has been there since its all new?

Do you get your own room?(i am booked in for csection)

Do you know if there is a bath that can be used, as i like to try and soak in epsom salts as it helps the healing after csection and baths are also the one thing that relaxs me and i want to get as many in there cos we dont have one at home and the spa is out of order

Was it fairly quiet and comfortable?

How were the nurses etc?

I havent had a tour of it yet, but think i have to meet the anetheatist(sp) a day or so before my surgery so will have a sneek peek then, but for now curiousity is getting the better of me

Can't really comment on the specifics of Welly Hospital but I think as a general rule most hospitals will try and get you your own room if you have a C-sect because you are so dependent on MW support and also because they have to disturb you so often the first night to check your vitals.

I'm not sure if they are all single rooms but I got a single room. They also let DH stay overnight and he got a rollaway bed. This could be because we had twins.

Room was very quiet, only interruptions we got during the night were when nurses came in and checked everything (and from memory that was once).

Sorry, not sure about baths, imagine they are only in the delivery suites.

For some reason the nurses didn't bother us to much. Could be because we were formula feeding or because they were not our first kids, haven't quite worked that out but at least DH (who use to be a nurse) was with me so in a way it was nice to be left to ourselves (didn't have a CS).

I think the new deliver and maternity ward is great, so much better than the last one. The best thing was having DH stay overnight

oohhh i would love it if DH could stay over, i think its cruel you hav to spend your first night alone......its very daunting, whether it be your first or not. I am gonna tell the nurses besides the obs they have to do on me and baby, to leave me to it.........

Hi,

I had a c-section and got my own room. It had a shared bathroom with the room on the other side. Others have their own bathrooms.
There are no baths in the rooms only in delivery.
Would've loved it if my DH could've stayed but he wasn't allowed too.
It depends on how busy it is as to whether or not you have to share. It was very busy when I was there and there is a reasonable amount of background noise.
As to the nurses some were fantastic, others not so good, depends if you have problems I got a variety of advice and got quite confused with some of it - I still had my own midwife dropping by which helped. They do try their best and are all pleasant though.

i delivered in wgtn Aug 09,,,,

the new suits are lovely.... there is a birthing pool in delivery but only showers in the wards, they are big and spacious. a big comfy chair for your partner..

most c-section ladies get their own room if space allows.

shared bathrooms are HORRIBLE !! there was blood all over the floor and toilet seat... and the rubbish bins were always over flowing !! think the cleaners only come once a day ??

midwives/nurses are fairly good.. although i did get a lot of conflicting information regardig breastfeeding and left the hospital feeling very unsure and anxious about doing it right.. ended up getting lact. consult to visit me at home.

usual story overworked and underpaid but lovely ladies of course

partners/husbands are not allowed to stay.. i survived and managed to get a bit of sleep.. he just returned early the next morning so it worked out fine.

best thing was that there was no pressure to leave quickly.. i had two nights in the ward.
