Topic: New worst mother award... Posted: 06 March 2006 at 2:46pm |
Awarded to me...
went to the docs yesterday and toby has a throat infection, so at home i gave him some pamol, he had a booby, i put him on the floor, got distracted by stupid treasure island and next thing i know he has spilled over hubbys newly made cup of coffee. i ran him into the kitchen and practicallly threw him under the sink. he didnt stop screaming for nearly an hour and a half. i felt so angry, and horrible and annoyed and really bad for my baby. but most of all i felt like a really bad mum. luckily his hand looks fine now but it was horrible.

You poor "wonderful mummy", we have all lost concentration for a moment and throughout our kids life will have many incidents where we feel bad. It is just the worst feeling though when something goes wrong.
I sat my now 15 year old daughter on the stove top when she was small so she could watch me make her sandwich in our tiny kitchen. Of course the stove was off - when I sat her on but she had fiddled without me seeing and turned on the hot plate!!!! She said a few times to me "ohh mummy hot" and me thinking oh yes a lesson here kept replying "yes bubby the stove is hot" and did the hot noise etc. It wasn't until her pants actually ignited taht I jumped into action. Put the flames out with a tea towel, straight under the tap and flew to the A&E with us bawling our eyes out. I was soooo upset and cranky with my stupitity and to this day still feel guilty however it is a long running family joke now that we all laugh about.
Don't feel bad accidents happen and he is ok so that's the main thing!

Oh crap, poor little guy. Don't beat yourself up about it, I can count on both hands (maybe more) the number of times things have happened to Ella when I should have been there. Luckily, God made babies resiliant because of this reason
Mums with two kids close in age, I can't imagine, you all rock!
*big hugs* gsmum

Please try not to feel bad you are a great mum. I can remember actually holding my cup of tea and Micheal grabbing it out of my hand and tipping on it on himself! These things are sent to try us. Deharn wow that must have been freaky.

Oh Deb....you are far from a bad mum......what is happening with our kids this week???
Honestly I can see this kind of things happening very easily....When Zaara sits on my lap and I am having a cup of tea or coffee, she is forever trying to grab the cup......kids are like that and like meow said...stronger for it. Your little man will be fine and you will continue to be a great mum!!!

All these terrible mothers! I'd hate to think what you would all say if you knew HALF the stupid things I've done in the past three years. Where to start - maybe when I cut her finger while I was cutting her nails when she was 3 weeks old. Or when I dropped her out of the Jolly Jumper onto the wooden floor and spent the night in Starship when she was three months. Or the time she pulled my Dad's cup of tea down off the shelf on top of her - luckily it was only luke warm!
We all do stupid things! The important thing is that Toby is ok, and as Lu said - that he is loved.
And like my Mum said to me when I rang her in tears after I cut Maya's hand with the fingernail clippers - if its the worst thing that happens to her in her life, she's a lucky girl!

Yeah, I'm the same... I've stopped even worrying about all the near-death situations Hannah has survived! If I did.... boy... I'd be a wreck!
You are a great Mum, Deb. Just gotta learn from it and make the most of mummy cuddles
