Chicken Pox???

have you had the chicken pox before yourself? when i was pregnant my midwife thought my oldest may have them and asked me if i had them, turned out she had slap check not chickenpox though.
none of my girls have had them yet.... so i cant really help.

Chicken Pox feels like the flu until you get spots... and then it feels like itchy AND the flu lol. You probably won't be able to tell until you see blister spots and by that time he would have already been contagious for about a week. I'd play it safe for now with contact with others.

I think it was my daughter who was in the photo you saw, she got quite alot of spots but my son only got a little bit - a few on his arm and body and a couple at the side of his face. So they could be but until the blisters come on you won't know. If in doubt after the weekend I am sure the DR nurse wouldn't mind taking a look at them for you.

So if Andrew was in contact with the girl on Tuesday then we are still looking at him not getting spots for a few more days. His temp is still up and the nose doesn't stop running. Combined with sneezing and coughing it is turing out to be a very fun exam period for me.

ggggr. guess who woke up with chicken pox this morning?

When i went to bed last night i checked paris and she had a small dot under her chin and a couple other red spots on her neck, she was a bit flushed and shiny looking and puffy in the face.. has had a runny nose for a couple of days, but then so has half the daycare, lol, had some kind of inkling that still, it might be chicken pox.

yep, this morning, the initial blistery dot is now huge and getting bigger as the day progresses, she had about 20 this morning when she got up.. i counted them. lol.. mainly all on face and neck and in her hair, dammit.

I am picking she is going to get far worse.. they have come on very quick, growing very quick and she is terribly uncomfy, saying to me "mum i don't like these blisters" there are more on her since this morning, when i put her to bed there were others coming up next to the original ones.. but mainly all on face so far. a couple of rogue ones on her legs and some on tummy and back and bottom. I think the most annoying one is she has a few on her nose, in between her eyes, and one coming up on her eyelid next to her eyelashes.

all this talk of chicken pox.. i should have known

when i said to her last night after discovering her being hot, i got her a drink and had a proper look at her spottys, i told her maybe its chicken pox and she said "oh yeah, like tasha(her friend at daycare).. i asked her if she had them a long time ago or just this week, lol she goes "oh, she's at home for this week, she's got the chicken pox but i think it's cos she ate too much chicken" lol funny kid.

so for those wondering what they look like, heres a blister...


these are the onesi noticed as small red itchy bite looking dots last night (well, midnight-ish) by this morning at about 8 am they were this big. ick.

Good on you Becks, I'd say that with the high temp he probably is going to get them. There is a post on here from some months back on how to soothe chicken pox, I remember putting a post in about cool/lukewarm baths/swimming really helping and someone else (Sarah Beth?) mentioned something that you can put in the water.... I think that's right. Might be worth searching for.

I just realised that one of my girls has had a runny nose for the last couple of days and both girls have been ultra-tired and off-colour. Janine how long did Paris have a runny nose for before the spots came out?

whoa 41.1 - did you tepid sponge him? scary cos at 42 they usually start to fit.. some would just above 40.

we went off to the docs and got some calamine, (which does nothing after the initial nice cool reaction) pinetarsol.. which is $12 a bottle! and some histafen for her in case she gets really upset and itchy at nights. Having trouble dressing her this evening, doesn't like anything touching her. she decided every morning we can count them. lol

ooh and paris didn't have too much of a runny nose, just al ittle on and off for about 2 days.. we played outside on thursday afternoon when it was really hot and we ended up playing with the hose and i first noticed the runny nose after that, so just thought maybe she'd got a bit cold. she did look a bit yellow and waxy for the last 2 days too, but we didn't really know what to think of it.. mike does that when he gets sick too but outwardly apart from that on and off runny nose.. nothing else till last night.

Gosh that is a really high temp - I would say if it last much longer i would go to the dr even if you already been there. Both my kids had convolstions (sp) although there was no lead up to them just very cuddly and cliggy.
As for pinetarsol - god send I still use it with my 8 year old when her ezesma (sp) gets really itchy. Also not too much bed clothes as heat will make the spots itch more. Calomine as you say is good for when you get it on and it cools down but doesn't last long for releif and recconmend luke warm baths all the time - even if it one in morn one in arvo and one at night to releive the itching.
