I have a great doctor, she follows through with things and will call your cellphone etc to make sure messages get through to you. She is in Newtown though, would that be too far? She has kids of her own too, which I like.. so she can relate.

You might have a bit of trouble getting in with lots of places.. when we first moved here I could only get into Kilbirnie, which I didn't like...it was only after 6 months or so that I could get into Newtown.

Oh no Jess!!!
That sucks.
Uhmmmm... I only know them as doctors. Did you ask them if they knew anyone in your area that was good?
My Plunket nurse recommended the Kelburn one when I asked about doctors that were particularly well versed with babies. Have you tried asking your Plunket nurse?
I couldn't imagine paying every time I took Han to the doctor. Would have cost me a fortune over the last year and a half!

It was such a mission finding a new Doc in Palmy, and I was so grateful to get one at the one place I wanted (she was new in town and yet had her patient list pounced on by frustrated locals), only to be charged for my one and only pregnancy-related visit! I'm hoping this isn't a sign on how they charge for babies there. I'm screwed if it is - good Docs are hard to find here because no-one is taking on new patients. Good luck, Jess - I don't think you're asking too much, and hope you get a great GP for you and Ella soon.
PS - how do some of them get away with charging for babies and pregnancy-related consults? Anyone know how they justify it? 'Cause I'm sure it's not entirely legal...

I took Ella to one in Thorndon, it was $25 each visit!!!!! I stopped going there obviously.. then we went to Kilbirine, I can't remember if it was free or $5.. after that my friend recommended Newtown and I've been going there since. It did cost $7, and now it's $9. But $9 is nothing if my child is sick. and yeah we've been there alot too.
I think you'll find many doctors charge a fee for babies now. When Ella was born they had just introduced a fee at some places, before that everywhere was free.

the city doctors charge about $10 i think Andie. We went there with jake after appalling service from the doctors, and the guy there was fantastic. So if you need a doctor in an emergency, try city doctors. Also, as they charge, the waiting area is relatively empty -

There was something about it in the news a couple of months ago and in the Wellington area there were only a couple of places that didn't charge for Children. Johnsonville medical centre was on it because they charged $25.
We go to Hataitai and thats $10 so not to bad
