We started a project today and got the girls involved as well (supernanny trick). They enjoyed it for quite a while but then H got tired and because of the cold water it hurt her hands lots so she started crying. Didn't stop for about 10-20 minutes.

The previous owner hadn't put weedmat down. I'm a firm believer in doing a job right first time. Measure twice - cut once, keep it simple stupid kinda thing. So I made plans to put it in.
A mate of mine came around and helped me dig out the stones. We didn't bother with the weeds just pulled it all out. Then he had to go, so I set up a stone-cleaning-train.
DW came out to talk to me, the girls followed and it turned into a family thing. I found it pretty cool. They did well too. Hands in cold water, holding the hose, moving stones from yellow bucket to blue bucket to white. When the white one filled up we (I) put the cleaned stones back on the garden.
My hands are pretty cold. I'm having trouble typping. I can imagine what H had. At one point I called her over to me and held her hands a little.
