Topic: Not Sire if this is a hoax BUT Posted: 24 April 2007 at 12:41pm |
This has been sent to me by three seperate family members Not sure if it's true but figured I would put it in here anyway! The orignal one was from my Hubands Aunty who is the woman writing this.
For you and or your kids safety
PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THIS SITUATION
I was approached in the Pak n Save Carpark in Taupo by two males, asking what kind of perfume I was wearing. Then they asked if I'd like to sample some fabulous scent they were willing to sell me at a very reasonable rate.
I probably would have agreed had I not received an email some weeks ago, warning of this scam. The men continued to stand between parked cars, I guess to wait for someone else to hit on.
I stopped a lady going towards them, I pointed at them and told her about how I was sent an email at work about someone walking up to you at the shopping malls, in parking lots, and asking you to sniff perfume that they are selling at cheap prices.
THIS IS NOT PERFUME - IT IS ETHER!
When you sniff it, you'll pass out and they'll take your wallet, your handbag, your valuables, and heaven knows what else.
If it were not for this email, I probably would have sniffed the "perfume", but thanks to the generosity of an emailing friend, I was spared whatever might have happened to me, and wanted to do the same for you. These guys hit Queenstown and Dunedin 2 weeks ago and now they are doing it Taupo and Rotorua.
IF YOU ARE A MAN AND RECEIVE THIS PASS IT ON TO ALL THE WOMEN YOU KNOW!!!
I called the police when I got back to my desk. Like the email says LET EVERYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS, YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, CO-WORKERS
Whoever!!! Tell everyone!

Thanks for that Vick! I have family in Taupo so I have forwarded this message to them just so they are aware of it. Even if it is a hoax, I'd rather let people know just in case.

even if it is a hoax its better to be safe than sorry because men walking around a car park wanting you to sniff perfume just doesnt sound right to me whether the email is a hoax or not

Yeah that's what I thought. If it is a hoax it's only cost is a few seconds time to read it. But I guess better safe than sorry.

I have to agree even if it is a hoax its still better to be safe than sorry. Its a bit like the window washers in South Auckland. We have one in Palmy but he does it by himself and will not do it if you say to him not to do it.

I have to agree also better to be safe than sorry eh.
There's some sickos out there who would anything to someone else to scam money for example. It's kind of like you have to be wary of everyone these days if their people you don't know it's a shame really.

YUP...Snopes is great.
I get sick of this nonsense. I had this the other day.
I asked my Doctor as did not know about Snopes then.
Her reply was
"You would have to have a cloth saturated with Ether/Chlorysomething over your nose and mouth breathing it in for over 5 seconds to black out"
I do agree however ...need to be cautious anyway these days about anyone - UNFORTUNATELY.

Sorry but it is a hoax, if in doubt google it:

Although some news paper reporter in Rotorua wrote up on the email rather than it happening.

Hi I just got an email from my SIL last night saying that when they were in America (January 07) it was happening then...... I dunno. It seems so weird, a public supermarket carpark like that is going to have heaps of people around, all the time, so wouldn't people looking drunk or falling over attract a lot of attention?

One that was in the paper a few weeks ago was that there is a gang of youths working carparks at Botany - from Botany South I think it was to Botany Town Centre. The Police said that they are approaching women alone, and taking their handbags. They'll jump into cars, and if you try to resist them they will assault. I haven't seen anything since the article to suggest they've caught them, but there had been a number of attacks within a short space of time. Worth noting anyway.
