Hello All.
I am still b/f Blake but trying to get a formula going on!! We tried the Soya milk one the other night on advice of Paedatrician and it was a total disaster. Blake just threw up and threw up for hours. So Paed has suggested something called PEPTI Junior I think..has anyone used this and if so why was the reason. And can you only get it on prescription and is it expensive? Was it due to Lactose Intolerance and did your Baby settle more on it?

Sorry for so many questions!

Hi Kelpa,
Maya was on PJ - it's for kids with cows milk/soy allergy or intolerance. It's not completely dairy free but the dairy protein in it is hydrolysed to make it easier for the body to break down, so less foreign to the immune system (I didn't explain that very well but hope you get what I mean!)

When Maya started on it she was grossly underweight (diagnosed Fails to Thrive) and had had diarrohea from soy intolerance for months. Within a week of being on the PJ the diarrohea had settled and she started gaining weight, and she stayed on it (and on a dairy free diet) till 22 mths or so when I weaned her onto rice milk.

As for cost, your paed will apply for Health Funding Authority special # which will subsidise it. I think it used to cost me around $14 for two tins (they are half size tins tho) which lasted us a week (she was 9 mths when she started it so Blake may need more).

Hope this helps.
