i did this with DS four years ago and only used a few signs as he was an early talker...well worth it though.
Milk, more and help is what we used.

Hi. Am waiting paitiently for my baby to arrive! However my very good friend is signing with her daughter who is just over 1 and it is so cool - and extremely cute! I am constantly watching her when they visit to see what new signs she has. What courses are available? Has anyone done one?

Hi. I haven't done my one yet.I have been looking on net and have come across babytalk nz .they have workshops all over nz. this one looks like its better for me because of the nz based signs that they use.have a look at website. i hope (fingers crossed) to carry it on later too for my self as well as baby if they want to. let me know how you get on.What a wonderful tool it will be to communicate so early!!!

You can buy the cards from Trademe that show the different signs, we had the lady who started it come to a coffee group and talk to us and show us a few different examples, most babies do a version of signs anyway. leah was doing at least 5 very similar to what she was showing us for the same things,. Keep meaning to get a card to do it with joel but never get around to it........of to TM now

Yep, we have done it with Joy since she was about 6 months. I love being able to communicate with her as her words aren't quite there yet. And she knows I understand her which must be cool for her too.
Definitely worth giving it a go and highly recommend babytalk.nz. They have all the resources and courses available but it is quite easy to get the main book read up and then start teaching the signs in the back.
Good luck, enjoy it if you get into it. I do!

Have just checked out the baby talk website and can't believe they have a coach in my area! Should I wait til baby is born or go now? Thanks Lucky1, good reference. Big plus that its NZ based sign too.

We did the course and found it really good. Started using it when Eva was about 6 months. She started signing back at about 8 months. Is amazing how quickly they pick it up. I highly recommend it.

We use some basic signs - milk, eat, dog, cat, rain, wind (as in breeze). It is good, especially the milk and eat signs as sometimes I misread her requirements, but now she lets me know what she needs.
