Topic: Pilates anyone? Posted: 25 October 2006 at 2:34pm |
In an attempt to rid myself of the post-baby jelly belly I've decided to start pilates.
I don't really want to lose a lot of weight, as I've always been a bit on the skinny side. But I've got a lot of flabby skin and jelly around my tummy that I'm keen to tone back into shape.
Are there any of you out there who do/have done pilates?
How effective did you find it for toning up?
Is it simple to learn? (I'm a bit uncoordinated, lol!)
TIA!

I have done pilates before and it was great. Takes a bit to learn the moves but once that s done it is easy.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

My sister mentioned this morning about starting dance classes again. I sooo want to! I'd love to do contemporary.
But then I have talked about it so many times and not actually got off my butt. So we'll see.
Have fun with the Pilates!

My partner used to do pilates lol.. they had someone come around once a week to their work.. I've never tried, but good luck!
Nikki, a girl from my school used to do ballet then switched to contemporary, she trained for a few years at Te Whaea, now she dances with Footloose.. my friend and I go and see just about every show when she is dancing in Wgtn.. maybe you could follow her path lol, forget about the degree and just dance

caramel, i love pilates!! i have the winsor pilates dvd and it's the only way i can tone up my thighs and flatten my jelly belly. honestly, give it a go!
you should see results in a couple of weeks from starting. it does take a bit to get the breathing down, but you'll know you've done it right cos you can feel it!

I tried pilates..but hated it - i felt every injury i had ever had come back with a vengeance...and I used to dance and be very sporty...
just another opinion....be careful and ask questions if it hurts...

I did the Windsor Pilates and yoga leading up to our wedding day. That worked REALLY well, I lost heaps and toned up nicely.
I've been doing a bit of walking (pushing the buggy lol) and have signed up to do yoga with my sister.
Can't wait to see this baby jelly belly gone! I was very lucky and didn't put on any weight when preggers (but I was a size 14 before and still am) was back in my jeans in 2 weeks but this bit of excess is starting to bug me!

i did yoga - pre-baby, and fell over. i had visions of it being relaxing and all about breathing, but they move fast, and i did preggie yoga - which was w bit weird and "feel your baby and see him with your inner eye", and Lewis muttering "mmmmgivetheswarmimoneymmmm", did not help with the giggles either. Not for me I'm afraid. I wanna try pilates though. anyone else thought it was pronounced to rhyme with pirate? also, when i say it all I can think about is that awful madonna soung "something something latte, yoga and pilates..."

Hehe Nikki, I have that one too but I just can't bring myself to do it without feeling like an absolute d!ck.
My lack of coordination and the knowledge that my Hubby would also be pissing himself if I tried out the moves on him puts me right off!
