Topic: AngelNZ and other Northlanders... Posted: 25 October 2006 at 7:09pm |
I know this applies mostly to Maria (AngelNZ), but anyone else with an opinion feel free to add your 10 cents worth!
Nat and I are looking at a few teaching positions around the country at the moment... one of them is at Kamo Christian College. So, what I am wondering is...
What do you know about the school? (local opinion is always helpful)
What is the average rent? (3/4 bedroom house, close-ish to the school)
What else should we know about Whangarei?

ohhhhh Yes come to the winterless north.
Dont know much about Kamo Christian. Apart from that i think its a fairly small school.
Average rent is probably around the $250 per week mark for a house in a good area. Kamo has pockets of bad that i wouldnt touch.
Ill come back on later and write some more about whangas or feel free to msn me tomorrow.
Ill also ask my sister about it. she lives in kamo and has kids at school so will probably know about it or know someone with kids there.

Winterless north... good point! That would be a nice change from here where it has tried to snow at least once every week for the last 3 weeks!
Anything you can tell us is greatly appreciated, Maria.

yeah we have friends in Kamo too - there are some nasty pockets but the good thing is that anywhere in whangarei and outer suburbs is still a quick drive
I am always suprised when we go up at how much whangarei has grown = their warehouse is great too!
One thing that always bugs me as an aucklander - the shops close early on sat and some dont open on sun at all...hmmm...and think there is only one real nightclub (like i do that anymore!!!)
But think of how close you would be to the bay of islands (my idea of paradise)...and auckland is not really that far for a day drive either...my Dh often drives up for work and back in same day from auckland.

Yeah, Aimee, I know!
Bombshell, here in Ohakune the supermarket closes at 7pm, and there are very few shops to be open on the weekend anyway! Even the petrol station closes at 8pm, so if you want anything in the evening... its 40 min to Taihape.
