I believe you are allowed to take both a car seat and stroller but you must check them.
I'm going to Wellington in June, and had to call Air NZ regarding allowances etc as this is my first time flying with a bub.. I've flown HEAPS on my own, but I'm really nervous about doing it with a 7.5 month old

I flew to Uk with 4 month old (6months on way back) granted I had other people with me but mainly looked after him myself as he was fine. bit different now that he is more mobile.

We are flying to Sydney soon and I thought an infant had only 10kg allowance (and that includes any extras such as a pram). Will check on the website....Infants are entitled to the same baggage allowance as the accompanying passenger, including car seats and strollers. Safety requirements mean that strollers must be stowed in the overhead lockers of the aircraft. If your stroller will not fit in an overhead locker, it will need to be checked-in with your other baggage.
On Air New Zealand Link aircraft there is very limited cabin stowage space so your stroller will need to be checked-in.
On Boeing 747, 777, 767, 737 and the Airbus A320 aircraft, strollers with a completely collapsible frame and seating will fit in the overhead lockers. Other strollers do not fit, including the three-wheeled 'jogger' style and those which do not fold inwards when collapsed.

hehe I read that - so under my understanding the stroller and carseat is included in the 20kgs weigh limit... doesn't leave us with much after we take those on... looks like i will share my baggage allowance with RHyley (or DH can) we are only going for a week so no biggie

Qantas Intl the infant has NO baggage allowance and you're only allowed to check 1 over size item for them. Plus they don't even get an extra carry on bag (you can only take food and nappies for the flight!)!!!!
Sorry, thats no help to you at all- I just thought it was bl**dy ridiculous esp considering how much you have to pay for infant tickets when they don't even take up a seat or eat the food.
When we flew Air NZ we had a full 20k bag for Charlotte, and we could only check her car seat in addition to that, not a pram as well. But that was 3 years ago so it well could have changed by now!

Are you hiring a car AnnC? Car hire companies can provide an infant seat.
Glad I am not flying with Qantas! I tend to overpack as it is

Wow Jennz, we always got 10kg for infants on Qantas, but wouldn't surprise me if they had cut it, they suck!
Ann - we have carseats in Sydney you can borrow too with the cot if you like?

Air NZ....infant baggage allowance is 20kg and yes you can take a car seat and collapsable stroller as part of your allowance.
